Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Jul 18, 2017 10:30 pm Hello all I am just about install a fiberglass pool myself. I have just ordered a small fiberglass shell. I will be plumping the pool myself. Looking for advice from other people. If you had the chance what would you do different with pool equipent, eyeball returns etc etc Pool will be salt chlorinated, Eco pumps are they worth it? Do I need a cartridge filter? Pool lighting, how many lights for a small 7 x 3m pool. Cheers. Re: Looking for advice / If you were installing a pool again 2Aug 16, 2017 10:11 am Filters - We have dual cartridge - much better than the sand type imo. Very easy to maintain. Lights - one good one will do - but its up to you. They often come with multiple "shades" so you can change the colour. We also have one in the water feature. 7 x 3 is not a large pool - 25-30k litres ? At night one will light the pool very nicely. Heating - I'd go for solar (we have electric). FG Vis a vis Cement - unless you have to - I'd go FG - not concrete. Overflow - I installed a pipe device to allow excess water to flow out - from skimmer box. Very easy and works really well. So never worry in high rain times. Pool - keep and eye on PH and my best tip - watch the water - if its crystal clear and clean - looks good - I feel this is one of the best tests for quality. Hand Rail - we have one near stairs. It has come in useful - was cheap - but buy a good one. My wife likes it. Pool Shop - They will always try to sell you more than you need. So be careful. Shop around for one you trust - not just the closest. Woolies sell Buffer and Bunnings/Magnet Mart sell Acid. If you have loads of kids in it - or dogs or such like - you may need more of the chemicals. Try to stop them peeing in it - and/or wearing too much cream etc when they go for a swim - eg wear a rashie. All this stuff does affect the water. Ours is self cleaning Ceramic FG - the only thing we have had to do - really - in 5 years is give an occasional wipe around the water mark. I use a normal kitchen scourer - NOTHING else. No liquids etc etc. We do not need creepy crawly or back washes etc. Although it is self cleaning I still use the net occasionally to get leaves, frogs, ants etc - out. All pools require attention on a regular basis - but most reasonably intelligent humans can do it themselves. You don't need to have a pool company come around unless you really want to. Regardless of all your equipment - I'd still get water checked at least once a month - but depending on usage, season, and "look". Re: Looking for advice / If you were installing a pool again 3Aug 16, 2017 10:13 am Also - ours is salt chlorinated with an auto feeder. Also an auto acid feeder. BUT -you still have to check the readings. AND - do what is needed - eg Buffer or Acid - every now and then.
