I we have just paid our deposit for a pool to go in our new home. We are considering our options for surrounds but have seen some pictures that have a polished type aggregate concrete surrounding it. Just wondering g what peoples experience may be either having it or possibly a contractor that does it, to tell me what they like and don't like about it, and costs compared to tiling with travertine over concrete or even just concrete or exposed.

Hi we were getting qoutes to do burnished concrete around our pool but quite a few concreters did not want to take on the job as its quite fiddly. Not sure if its because we just wanted a 400mm width. Instead we have chosen travertine with a burnished concrete sunbaking ledge. Hoping it turns out ok.
Good luck. The advice i got was make sure you hire someone who knows what they r doing.

Unfortunately I had to terminate my builder so am in the process of getting the new guy up and running. The slab is completely formed up but won't be poured for a couple of weeks now unfortunately.

Looking good Steve. We got our quote finally and its not too bad a bit dearer then if we tile, still not sure what we'll do. We did have our hole dug for the pool then they delivered our shell and it was unacceptable to now unsure when we'll have it.
Cant wait to see yours honed.

Thanks Marz. Honing is now starting on Monday (weather permitting). Apparently it's a 3 day job so I should have some pics by Wednesday. The preparation of the pool for tiling is starting on Tuesday.

We're generally pretty happy with how the honed concrete has turned out. There are a couple of cracks in spite of the use of a double layer of steel mesh. If we were taking this to a polished finish these cracks would be largely invisible but as it's honed instead (to provide slip resistance) they're quite visible. We're going to move in and see how much they annoy us prior to doing anything more with it.
