Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Feb 12, 2017 4:03 pm I have an old in-ground pool, vinyl lined with steel coping, steel walls and a concrete base, 5m x 9m. I can either re-build the pool to slightly smaller dimensions and make it a concrete one, consider making it a smaller lane pool or look at possibly part filling the pool and installing an in-ground swimspa at around 6m x 2.5m. 1. Anyone got any experience doing this and any advice or gotchas? Second consideration is the awkward site. Pool was originally excavated into sandstone, but is at the top end of my site with the road as the bottom end, with approximately 30m between those. House is double-story in the middle, so any crane would need to clear it at around 16m. I guess it could be crane lifted into the back yard, or worse case, heli-lifted. 2. Anyone got any experience with this kind of prefabricated swimspa lift or heli-lift? My very rough estimation is that a pool rebuild will be somewhere around $40-50k, given all materials will need to be manually handled. I'm hoping a swimspa could be located in place for less than that, but really have no idea if actually getting it there will be crazy costs or not. Thanks, Avron Re: Swimspa into old inground pool? 2Feb 12, 2017 5:27 pm We have done quiet a few similar to what you have .We install fibreglass pools inside existing excavation . Sometimes a small amount of excavation is still needed if pool needs rotating or new one is deeper . I have attached a photo of one we did at narrabeen Before and after .i have done helicopter, cranes and manual lifting . A helicopter will cost between $5000 and $20000 depending on the site .Using a fibreglass shell is about half the weight of a self contained swimspa making craning easier and cheaper. It can also be backfilled and landscaped where a self contained swimspa requires access all around .
