Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Jan 12, 2017 11:21 pm Hi. I've searched the net and a couple of sites but have not got the exact answer/advice I'm after. We're looking to sketch in a fiberglass pool that will be between the slab of the house and alfresco. Unfortunately there's not a lot of space to play with so it'll have to be really close to it - also because of aesthetic appeal that we want to achieve from the pool close to the window. I've seen concrete pools built in really close to the house but what about fiberglass? Since this will be a new build i can work with the placement and also get the piering done deeper than the pool depth - is that all that needs to be done? and how close can we get? Also when should this go on, before the build/slab or after? it'll get mighty dirty thru the build specially with water in it? Also where does the piping run? if the pool is close to the slab and alfresco (also slab based) it'll be closed from one end almost all length, other side will be quite open (see picture), does that pose a problem? Also how far can the equipment be from the pool so we can slot in a location around the pool... Any help is appreciated and pointers to talk to pool people will be great! Re: Fiberglass Pool Close to the House/Slab New Build 2Jan 13, 2017 6:31 am We just told our builder that we were placing the pool (fibreglass) near the house and they reinforced the slab accordingly. As for the pipes, they will just run to wherever you will be housing pool equipment. You will also have one pipe for backwashing to stormwater or sewer. There will also be one more pipe for overflow. Re: Fiberglass Pool Close to the House/Slab New Build 3Jan 13, 2017 10:16 am Great thanks. So what you see in the picture above will be possible if i get the slab reinforced. My other question was about when to do this .. before the slabs go in.. or after .. it might get a little tight for excavation after .. or is that generally okay ... --- I don't have a signature - just this sentence saying that I don't have one - that'll do! Fiberglass Pool Close to the House/Slab New Build 4Jan 13, 2017 1:54 pm For my plans as I didn't have a 2mtr space for a digger after the slab goes down the pool will be done in this order. 1.house demolished. 2. The hole gets dug 3. Pool gets placed in the ground (we are now going for a concert pool) so I don't know to what level of finish the pool gets. 4. As we are 2 story pool gets covered with a safety cover (hard surface that protects the pool and the builders) 5. How's gets finished. 6. Pool gets completed. You have to negotiate with the builder as to when the cover can come off (once scaffolding is down) and if they will let your pool builder on site while the house is being finished off The last home I lived in didn't have a pool and when i went to sell it the agents were not happy, even telling me to put one in to sell the place.
