Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Aug 10, 2008 10:58 pm Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to get some ideas and suggestions from you all regarding our future pool. We are currently building our house (well PD are) and it's time for us to start looking around for a pool. We had originally planned to have the pool on the side of the house so that the whole backyard was for the kids to run around on. We are now wondering whether or not the pool should be in the back left corner and have two separate grass areas - one being on the side and the other being on the right side of back. We will have 7m on the side and 12.8m at the back. We are thinking about a pool size of 10m x 4.2m-4.2m. Below is a plan of our block and yard space. Also have attached some pics of the pools we are considering. In the photos showing one or more diagrams go for the bigger pool we'd like something between 9m and 10m long. Happy at Home Re: Help, advice, suggestions for our backyard/pool 3Aug 11, 2008 12:05 am I vote for back right-hand corner. Leaves you a large continuous space down the left-hand side of the house. Also, which room is at the back of the house? It may be easier to see the pool than if it was at the side.
Judie Re: Help, advice, suggestions for our backyard/pool 4Aug 11, 2008 7:54 am if the pool is closer than 1 mtr (from memory) to the house, the house will need underpinning which is about $1500-$2000 per lineal mtr also if the pool is next to an occupied boundary then there is also a possibility of underpinning dependent on local laws

Without knowing that - I like the pool on the side. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Help, advice, suggestions for our backyard/pool 7Aug 11, 2008 8:30 am I'd put it where you can see it from inside, or from the alfresco.
It will be nice to watch the kids whist sitting undercover in the alfresco. I agree with davinci, you may need underpinning if you go on the side. I'd put it right in the middle of the back yard and leave the side for all the footy and cricket games. You could then have a bit of paving around and have a great entertaining area. When your kids are a little older you will find they are playing out the front with other kids. Paula Re: Help, advice, suggestions for our backyard/pool 8Aug 11, 2008 12:17 pm I'd put it either in right hand back corner or to the side as you were going to - wherever you can see them best from. Either way you'd still get nice big expanse of yard for playing
I'm v jealous of your massive back yard by the way Re: Help, advice, suggestions for our backyard/pool 9Aug 12, 2008 1:02 pm Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for all your replies. To answer a few questions..... The LHS of the house faces North. We don't have any windows at the back of the house. On the plan above the back part of the house is - larger room is the home theatre and only has a large sliding door out onto the Alfresco which is the smaller room on the left. We thought if the pool went down the side then it would end in line with the afresco and we could sit there and watch the kids, chat etc. Easement is along the back and runs across the back of the block. We don't have any pipes etc in any part of our back or side yard. PD was aware of the future pool. We would have just under 2m from the house to the actual side of the pool. We hoped that 1.2m would be enough for a footpath and then 800mm from the fence to the pool side, we'd like the top and bottom ends to have an open area and the side just be enough to walk down. Think I will just take my plan down to the pool shop and see what they suggest! We won't actually see alot of yard/pool from inside the house. The back doesn't have any windows, there are two sliding doors going out to the alfresco, one from the home theatre and one from the meals. We only have a 1m wide window in the meals and that will face the pool it if goes down the side. No matter if the pool ends up in the side or back you'll be able to see it clearly from the Alfresco. I'd like to keep the right hand side of yard for washing line and maybe shed which we will screen. Oh, it's a bit hard isn't it!! I did go to the pool shop before our house started and they said we'd have plenty of room without needing underpinning.....might look into that again! If we put it close to the side fence it shouldn't matter to the neighbours as the houses have to sit at least 2.5m from the fence (developer preferred 3.5m) we got away with 2.36m instead of 2.5 Yep, backyard is great, we would have had even more if we had of gone with H*nl*y as their houses are more square, think we would have had 20m x 18m if we had of built the Empire! Could have had pool on one side and grass on the other then Thanks for all your replies. I'll let you know how I go at the pool place.
