Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Nov 23, 2016 7:40 pm HI Everyone I placed my spa on my concrete pad today and got out a level and found the concreter has a slight fall back to my retaining wall. He was told I wanted it level for a spa or the slightest slop ever for drainage towards the grass. Anyway the ******** has put a slight fall back towards my retaining wall....... hard to get good help. Anyways one way is pretty level and not much out but the other way I can lift the level about 8mm before it become level. The spa weights 200kg empty and takes 950 litres full so all up with people could be 1.5 tonnes. Should I worry about the unlevelness. I was going to shim it with Masonite but was thinking this could just end up ripping the frame apart due to weight. Am I better of taking my chance and leaving it or shimming it? /Thanks Re: spa on slightly unlevel concrete pad 2Nov 24, 2016 7:48 am I wouldn't shim it as it will stress the frame. The only suggestion to level it would be to put up some low formwork to the exact shape of the spa and then pour in some self-leveling floor screed to get it 2mm at the higher end and 10mm at the lower end. Re: spa on slightly unlevel concrete pad 3Nov 24, 2016 8:15 pm Hi Bashworth I ended up just leaving it, I filled it tonight all seems ok. My concrete has a rough cove finish so it probably didn't help the perfectly flat slab I was after. The 8mm difference is over 1900mm so I'm figuring its not going to make to much of a big deal maybe slightly more pressure/weight on the acrylic shell on the fall side. The only bonus is the fall side contains the filter so that's handy and worked out remarkably well in my favour if nothing else went right so I will take that one as a win.... If anything happens I will be sure to post and let everyone know but I'm thinking I will be all right. Many years ago my parents got a fairly large spa and fitted it on top of pavers which were only bedded in compacted sand. They never put a pergola or cover over it for at least a year or two so after all the rain the pavers shifted slightly never affected the shell of the spa at all. In fact the spa lasted quite well until the heater corroded itself so bad it rusted the pipe out and sprayed water all inside the electrics. I was probably about 14 years old at the time and my parents refused to fix it due to the cost back then. I tried many of things silicone, liquid nails etc to try and plug the hole but the thing kept busting under pressure and tripping the rcd. It was a good lesson in electrics for me lots of walking back to the meter box and rcd flicking switches now that I come to think about it probably lucky I never killed myself. The concreter will take and reuse. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5855 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits. There's only one… 7 13451 |
