Just wondering if anyone has some advice on pool certification.
My issue is as follows.
As a separate exercise to the construction of the house, the pool was approved and built through private certification and the certifier has been to inspect at completion. There were four items listed as "unsatisfactory" by the certifier. One has been fixed to their satisfaction, one was actually already ok and they have now accepted it as such and the other two items are:
- 1. Windows
We have two windows in a wall of the house which forms part of the pool fence. They open about 250mm and the openable part is only about 700mm above the floor. I have therefore added restrictors by screwing in stops to the top part of the window frame (about 2,000mm above floor level) so that the windows no longer open more than 90mm.
The certifier is telling me that I need to have a grille or bars over the windows with openings no more than 100mm, but my reading of the Australian Standards is that, whilst this is an option, it is also an option to provide a fastener that prevents the window opening more than 100mm, as long as the fastener is installed in such a manner that it requires a tool (screwdriver, spanner etc etc) to remove - ie, you can't just slide it out of the way by hand.
Can anyone reconfirm that what I have done is acceptable?
- 2. Pump enclosure
They are also telling me that the pump needs to be enclosed in a housing so as to limit the amount of noise.
Firstly, I don't believe this is an actual requirement. My readings of various documents and policies etc is that a housing is typically only required if there is an actual noise issue (eg, neighbours complain etc) and then something is done to mitigate the specific issue. There does not seem to be any requirement to build a generic housing on the basis that noise might be an issue.
Secondly, aside from our pump being sited away from our neighbours' houses (our own house has the closest room to the pump), the pump itself is a low speed pump that you can barely hear unless you are standing right next to it. In fact it was running the whole time the certifier was here and I don't think he even noticed.
Does anyone have any information on the requirements or otherwise to put a housing over a pool pump?
Thanks in advance for taking the time to think about this
