Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Apr 07, 2016 9:42 pm Hi All, We decided on buying a Vortex Swim Spa and we have decided to partially submerge into the ground and build decking around it. Easy right. So we need to dig a 8m x 4.3 x .9m hole which will provide 1m access all round. Next the retaining wall then the 150mm slab. Hardest part has been getting tradies to quote, and when they have the quotes have varied by $15k for the entire job less the decking. Does anybody have a clue what would be a fair and realistic price to pay for the following. ---- 8 x 4.3 x .9 meter hole - all soil will remain on site - soil is a mixture of soil, clay and soft shale - approx 45cubic meters ---- Retaining wall all the way round using galvanized H posts 1.2m centers and H4 200x75 sleepers ---- Drill out 18 holes for the posts, agg pipe all round ---- 25mpa concrete and F82mesh concrete with concrete pump I live near Penrith My quotes so far have started at 15K to 30K .... which I think is excessive Stevef Re: Swim SPA Installation Site Pre costs 2Apr 08, 2016 10:06 am Do you have access problems , does it involve hard digging, $15-$30k maybe a bit steep without knowing what's involved? Here are a couple of tips when posting and dealing with subcontractors 1. Because time= money.. when requesting quotes and info , send photos sketches itemized/ break downs and simplify processes 2. Have a clear idea in your own mind of what's involved quantities/time ie m3 and what's a fair rate per/hr or days work +plant + profit margin 3.Explore options or alternatives that can impact on the overall costs 4. Be prepared to pay over the tote for a better job 5. If the pit fills with water it would destroy all electrics which would probably write it off . If you don't have access for good drainage pipe to stormwater you will also need a lower pit with a bilge pump in it . Cheers Spending that sort of money on ground works you would be about the same all up cost as fitting in a in ground pool . It will add much more value to property than a portable one will , will be significantly cheaper to run , look much better & a fraction of the maintenance & chemicals . Re: Swim SPA Installation Site Pre costs 4Apr 08, 2016 9:20 pm Thanks for the replies. Yes I have priced the materials and approx how long it will take to do the work with the help of a Builder friend of mine. He basically said there is just to much work around and not enough tradies. With respect to the drainage yes I will be installing to sump pits with two dirty water immersion pumps. I don't anticipate much seepage at all due to the slope of the land and soil. And the top of the spa/hole will be covered over by decking and a covered structure. I guess I will need to keep shopping around, I don't mind paying a fair price for good work, but to be ripped off goes against the grain and ticks me off. Run an advert on gumtree for a few labourers and offer $25-30 p/hr and be prepared to roll up the sleeves ..I've found even if it takes Twice as long you will still be half the price. Yep ,I feel the same way,LOL some tradies think they are gods gift to the building industry Make sure the jobs done properly because structural repairs (several years down the road) can cost 5-10 x the initial cost...goodluck Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 8270 Is anyone building with Mojo and have a recent site cost tender 0 12251 3 3234 |
