Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Jan 24, 2016 7:37 pm Im currently in the process of getting a fibreglass pool put in and had a few questions about heat pumps. First of all, has anyone used Hayward for their heating and can give an opinion on it? Secondly, using the pool size calculator, the minimum sized heater is the 13KW model but how much more effective or worthwhile would going up to the next model, the 21KW. Re: Pool Heaters 2Jan 24, 2016 7:42 pm Good heaters, wifi controls are great . Heaters always bigger is better and more efficient but st of heater & electrical connection often dictate . What size pool . Are you using a blanket , do you have solar panels on roof ? Re: Pool Heaters 3Jan 24, 2016 7:55 pm Well I was offered the Hayward Heat pump energy pro 13KW model for $4400 and the 21KW model for $5700. I dont currently have solar panels but would definitely look into it if I could run the heat pump almost year round for free. The pool is a 9.3 x 4.2 and dont have a blanket. Re: Pool Heaters 4Jan 24, 2016 7:59 pm I would defiantly go bigger . If you want to use the pool regularly in winter a blanket will half the heating cost Cheers Re: Pool Heaters 5Jan 24, 2016 8:08 pm You wouldnt by any chance know roughly how much quicker or efficiently the 21KW model will work compared to the 13KW? Re: Pool Heaters 6Jan 24, 2016 8:21 pm Every install is different but at a minimum 50% less time & energy If you are going to heat to use then turn it off it will save even more . The thing with heat pumps they are slow heating so on a cold day as you heat the environment is cooling the surface water , the sides & ground around your pool & the pipes & filtration equipment . You also need to ensure the cold air coming out of the condenser is blowing away from pipes, equipment & pool . I've seen this before and it makes the heat pump useless . Re: Pool Heaters 7Jan 25, 2016 5:50 pm Well I plan on using it to keep a consistent temperature in the warmer months and then to heat up the pool if I have a bit of time off work in say May or September/October. The reason I asked about the bigger unit was for wondering how quick I could heat it up if I had people coming over on the weekend or something like that. Hi everyone, Looking for some advise.
