I recently installed a fibreglass pool and almost every time I look in I seem to find several spiders in the pool. They appear to be of the wolf spider species and at the moment they seem to be in control of the pool, not me. Is this common and my question is what do I do to get rid of them? Any advice would be great Thanks Re: Spiders in my pool 2Jan 24, 2016 7:50 am SP77 Hi Everyone. I am a first time new pool owner. Any advice would be great Thanks This is rare for us - a spider in the pool. We do find frogs some morning - just swimming. Do you have vegetation/trees nearby ? Have you tried some poisons for around the "box" area ? Are you talking 1 or 2 a week - or 5 - 10 a day ? Re: Spiders in my pool 3Jan 24, 2016 5:41 pm Hi, I do have small vegetation 5 metres away from the pool. I am finding 5-8 a day. I agree it's very strange and frogs is more common from what I hear. Haven't tried any poisons as I have a 2 1/2 yr old who is in "discovery phase" don't know really what to do. Re: Spiders in my pool 4Jan 25, 2016 12:12 pm you can add borates to the pool borates change the surface tension which helps drown the spiders and they then get sucked into skimmer check trouble free pool dot com more answers than anyone has questions Re: Spiders in my pool 5Jan 25, 2016 12:17 pm SP77 Hi, I do have small vegetation 5 metres away from the pool. If you do inside the pool fence - so youngsters can't get at it - maybe after dinner ? Agree with above though - or ask the local pool shop - I'll bet you aren't the only one. Re: Spiders in my pool 6Jan 25, 2016 2:22 pm They are only Wolf spiders. We have had Funnelwebs in some of our local pools which are of a much greater concern. I'd say just sweep the pool quickly before anyone gets in and learn to live with them rather than use any poisons. Strewie Re: Spiders in my pool 7Jan 25, 2016 6:32 pm They are only Wolf spiders. If it were me I would just skim them out and move them somewhere else. Re: Spiders in my pool 8Jan 26, 2016 9:17 am piscean They are only Wolf spiders. I still get the job of relocating spiders but at least he doesn't want to kill them anymore At least with a pool skimmer there's plenty of distance between the spider and the scooper so even someone who doesn't like spiders might manage it Re: Spiders in my pool 11Jan 27, 2016 11:16 am Stewie D She wouldn't like some of the ones we have around here at the moment SM with all this warm weather and rain - a bigger version of the St Georges Cross spiders, about three inches across with a body about the size of a 20c piece and a huge web usually strung between trees over footpaths etc. Stewie She can't even take a Gecko ...
