Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Apr 02, 2015 12:57 pm Hello everyone, As we are getting closer to starting to build I would like a bit of advice on the placement of our pool. Our yard is a bit of a funny angle and I dont want the pool to cut the yard in half. Just to keep it simple, here is where the drafty put the pool for an example. The pool he has drawn in is way smaller than the one we will be getting. Drafty's is about 5 meters in length, we are thinking we want about 7-8metres long and 3-4 mtres wide. http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm2/sandra77_photo/Euston%20pg1.jpg Here is the lower level of the house. http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm2/sandra77_photo/Euston%20pg2.jpg Hubby wants the pool on that side of the patio (option A), I am not sure that I am liking it though. It will get no sun in winter and all the sun in summer! I think remove the BBQ/outdoor kitchen and put it on the other side of the patio. More sun in winter and less sun in summer (option B). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Option B leaves the problem of where do we put the BBQ area now? Perhaps on the outer edge of the patio? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated... (especially those that agree with my side of the story hahahaha) Cheers Sandra Re: Opinions on pool placement please. 2Apr 02, 2015 9:46 pm Hi Sandra77, Nice house, IMO, Option A is a better location than Option B. One would want the pool to be visible from the kitchen in case kids are playing in there. However, I have an alternate location for your consideration. I would put it in the rear corner and have a timber screen hiding the pump equipment in the back corner. Open up the rear yard! It will look amazing! http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c184/andrew20092/pool_zpsjxgrmeas.png Just my 2 cents, Andrew My Concrete Pool Build in SA http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=73509 Re: Opinions on pool placement please. 3May 06, 2015 6:06 pm Agree with carmania's suggestion. Putting it at the rear comer will give you an amazing pool with the pump equipment hidden at the back. Re: Opinions on pool placement please. 4May 11, 2015 10:00 am I think a pool needs sun - especially in winter - if you plan to swim - even if you have a heater. You do have to be careful in summer as it can turn the pool into a soup - by 4pm. I like to see the pool too - so I wouldn't "hide" it. It can be a special feature for the house. The equipment makes a noise - so it should be away from living areas and maybe bedrooms - and also consider neighbours. It will also need some cover and power. And an area for your tools etc. It does need to be fenced though - so you don't want it looking like a little boxed area - or make the deck/al fresco look like you've been fenced in. If it gets full summer sun you may need to look at some sort of cover - maybe a roof or some sort or sail ? Re kids - they should not be in pool area unless they can swim well. Not sure that's any help - but ... Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room.
