Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Mar 20, 2015 2:50 pm Hello Our below ground fiberglass pool has just been put in and we are deciding on Freo Stone paving vs poured limestone. We are in Perth, so ground is very sandy with lots of ants. All my research has shown that poured limestone has the following benefits: - Cheaper than paving - No ants or weeds (except along cuts) - Pressure cleaning wont remove joint sand. And the following drawbacks - Will need to be cut / jack-hammered out if access needed to pool pipes. - Difficult to match colour for any repairs. - Cracking over time. - Sealing costs. Any Thoughts? Thanks! Re: Paving vs Poured Limestone around Pool 2Mar 21, 2015 11:05 am I was on of two installers of lumeah in Vic several years ago when it was available here. What I liked about it was the shapes for pattern etc are endless, the coping can be poured at the same time as main area. It is cool to the touch etc Almost all paving in wa is on sand, it moves, all ways does and ants etc when I was contracting in WA all my paving was on a concrete base and installed on mortar. The looks I would get from other contractors was priceless but my paving dosnt sink, move etc If you use a company like Limestone Australia (if they are still around) to supply the poured limestone then matching shouldn't be a problem. All concrete cracks, limestone is only around 16-20 mpa dependant on who supplies so its tensile strength is low. Correct reinforcement size, poly membrane, chairs and n12 re entry bars should be used to help reduce or eliminate cracking. Have a look on my website there is two galleries with wa limestone poured here in Melbourne. The Prahran gallery has poured limestone coping, 80mm thick. Looks awesome Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Paving vs Poured Limestone around Pool 3Mar 21, 2015 4:06 pm Thanks! There are so many options out there. The guy that came out to quote us today, suggested coloured concrete over poured limestone. - 100mm thick compared to 75mm - 80mm usual poured limestone - Foam expansion joints around all bullnose capping & limestone retaining walls. - Easier to colour match down the track - Stronger MPA than limestone - Cheaper per sqm So far paving is most expensive, and coloured concrete is the cheapest. Thanks! Re: Paving vs Poured Limestone around Pool 4Mar 21, 2015 5:01 pm We got sandstone pavers. Very happy with them. They sort of age over time - giving them an aged look - funnily enough. Easy on the foot and look good in rain too. I love the fossils in them. Re: Paving vs Poured Limestone around Pool 5Mar 21, 2015 7:06 pm Had a look look but don't really like the look of coloured concrete. Still prefer the natural look of liquid limestone. We got quoted $70 / m2 for 100mm poured limestone. A lot of other contractors seem cheaper on google, but who knows.... Prices seem to be all over the place. Wife is getting annoyed as every cat in the neighborhood is using our yard as a toilet. Re: Paving vs Poured Limestone around Pool 6Mar 23, 2015 8:12 pm Put the sq mtr price aside... Get references, job addresses you physically go and inspect, have they got a show room, have they got insurance, are they accredited, do they take into account your specific site situation... Does a concrete pump need to be used, are you on reactive soil, is an engineer required to design to your sites requirement etc etc Don't always go off price, go of affordable quality Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Paving vs Poured Limestone around Pool 7Mar 24, 2015 9:41 pm Hi Wozzzaaa Thanks for posting, we are debating the exact same question (also in Perth) Paving annoys me but the idea of cutting into concrete/limestone doesn't excite me either. Have you looked at exposed agg? Same issues but looks great, not sure of average price? Too many choices.....
