Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Mar 09, 2015 1:46 pm Hi Ladies and Gents, Just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction? I am currently in the market for a pool & spa (I would like them overlapping or sorted of joined if that make sense) I am after something around 7 by 3 meteres and around a 5 seater spa. Now looking online, I just dont know who to go with as there is just so much conflicting info and reviews. We are currently in the processing of building(designing) our new house so I really want to make sure everything fits. Because if we go fiberglass I can try and move the house around to accomodate. 1. So first my biggest questions is which way to go fiberglass or concrete? I want something that will give me the least amount of issues, and last a long time. I led to beleive you can purchase self cleaning systems for both so no real issues there I guess. 2. I have a absolute budget of around 50-60k. 3. Where in Melbourne or who is the best person to speak to? I have been told for a concrete pool and spa with all the extras I would be looking at 100K. But recently talking to Lazaway pools they said I can get most of completed for around 35k but tiling etc all is on top and the jacuzzi also. To me that sounded like a very good price. They also supply a 7 year warranty. However fiberglass pools have around 25-35year warranty. So I am just very lost. I dont mind paying a little extra for a quality product. Either way I go I will be installing gas heating for the pool and spa along with solar, along with decent quality equipment. Can anyone point me the right direction? Or provide more info about lazaway pools? Re: Pool & Spa selection in Victoria 4Mar 11, 2015 3:29 pm Hi Use google to look up the before mention pool company for reviews then make your decision on them In terms of fibreglass the install cost is cheaper due to the ease of intstall. the shell is prefab so much quicker but you are limited to the size and shape of pool and spa. All of the pools i design and work on are concrete. Yes they do cost more but the flexiabilty for size, shape and depth outweighs the additional cost. The warranty... the structural warranty on fibreglass to my knowledge on covers the shell itself, not removal and reinstall costs...but i could be wrong I have seen two issues with fibre glass - pool shell sinking / settling and once cracking in the gel coat after a few months Concrete pools can can also have issues minus the sinking / settling. from experience, almost 17 years of structural landscaping i always recommend to my clients to choose concrete over fibreglass. I use Alpine Pools for my concrete shells. From a price point they are competitive and build quality is excellent. I'm in the fibreglass camp . The construction & installation of a concrete or fibreglass pool is the key. If either is not done correctly for the site you can have problems . The only advantage a concrete pool has is size , shape & depth can be whatever you can afford. Most people are very happy with the range of fibreglass pools available. The lower maintenance, warmer, more affordable , quicker construction & nicer surface of a fibreglass pool will satisfy most. We have shopped around and opted for a fibre glass pool (8 X 4) with spa jets. We chose fibreglass over concrete because the fibreglass technology seemed more impressive. The pool we chose come with a life time warranty and it also came with extras like a water feature at no cost. We talked to a lot of pool companies but ultimately we signed up with Compass Pools. They've won heaps of awards and they have been around for decades. I definitely think it worthwhile speak to them. All up we are paying 48K! I am leaning more towards concrete at this stage (alpine pools) i got a quote for the same size as yours along with everything I have mentioned above. But if I want it all tiled its an extra $7k. So at that price just too hard to refuse! 3 3554 Hi Kaiser85, We are building with Firstyle Homes. Our build has just started, slab pour is on Saturday (hopefully!).
