Re: Simple Pool Questions ? 2Jan 24, 2015 7:00 am Saint Mike I thought a simple "pool question" thread might be good - for the "dumb questions" ... For starters .... Just a simple question. Why does the Ph suddenly fall in a pool ? Is it to do with rain, sun, prolonged lack of rain, other chemicals ... Re: Simple Pool Questions ? 3Feb 05, 2015 9:16 am When buying a pool - is it better to get an auto water outlet - or just have a device to allow water to flow out when you turn it on ? Re: Simple Pool Questions ? 4Feb 05, 2015 9:32 am Take a sample of pool water to your pool shop to check that the pool water has been stabilised. Ensure the pump is running when taking the sample to ensure the pool water is mixed. If the water is not stabilised there can be wide swings in PH. Re: Simple Pool Questions ? 5Feb 05, 2015 9:49 am Saint Mike When buying a pool - is it better to get an auto water outlet - or just have a device to allow water to flow out when you turn it on ? I have a very old pool. I try to save water by normally vacuuming through the filter & then a short backwash however after a thunder storm I allow the pool to fill to the brim and then vacuum to waste to lower the pool to the right level or before a thunder storm I vacuum to waste and use the rain to refill the pool. Where I live, heavy thunder storms are not that frequent. If you pool is in an area of frequent and heavy thunder storms you may want to consider an automatic overflow. Re: Simple Pool Questions ? 6Feb 06, 2015 7:29 am Thanks B. We have occasional big rain/storms - say 2 a month. But - at this time of the year we do get continual rain. I rarely let any out - as we have warm weather regardless of rain. The Ph though was funny. It just dropped. Re: Simple Pool Questions ? 7Feb 06, 2015 7:35 am Has anyone had a snake in their pool ? This might be better in my myths thread ... viewtopic.php?f=1&t=62127&p=1299854#p1299854 Re: Simple Pool Questions ? 8Feb 07, 2015 5:07 am no snakes in the pool yet but have had a frog. had phosphates in the pool when the developer mowed close to our fence. has anyone had a box or cover made for their solar pool blanket and reel? Re: Simple Pool Questions ? 9Feb 07, 2015 1:30 pm 1rocky no snakes in the pool yet but have had a frog. had phosphates in the pool when the developer mowed close to our fence. has anyone had a box or cover made for their solar pool blanket and reel? I had a cover for the equipment. As its long and high - it has two cylinder filters about a metre high and a heater there is a bit. So - I built what could best be described as a mini car port - off the wall - on a slight angle - with a drain. It works well - BUT doesn't provide a nice warm spot for things to make a home. One side - the one you see from the pool and also the north side - has a "wall" - slats to almost the ground. So the equipment does not get sun. We do not have a cover for the blanket - but it does have the plastic cover that came with the roller and blanket. We have a few of those snake gadgets too - which beep at times. Hardly notice them - and not seen a snake yet - we did have a few. We had a frog one morning - swimming back and forward like he owned the pool. I helped him vacate. Re: Simple Pool Questions ? 10Feb 10, 2015 7:52 am thanks Saint mike i will post pics when it is finished . it is long and will have two lids so blanket can be reeled out also has room for the auto pool cleaner. the other equipment is away from the pool i a corner with an awning over it cannot be seen from the pool or house. it houses the solar heat pump the filter etc. Re: Simple Pool Questions ? 11Feb 11, 2015 1:08 am Saint Mike I thought a simple "pool question" thread might be good - for the dumb questions ... Saint Mike.....ph falls due to the Total Alkilinity (TA)of the pool being out of wack, usually it's too low. TA is a measure of the carbonates in the water. A pool needs to be slightly carbonated (fizzy) to hold stable Ph. If it's too low the Ph fluctuates easily. TA falls when water is aerated, so splashing, bombing, heavy rainfall etc will all cause TA to drop. TA is corrected by adding Buffer to the pool water.
