That looks really tricky. Did you do it yourself? We started looking at pools today, made me think of you. Have only looked at fibreglass plunge size ones so far (4.5 x 2.5m apx) as I'm presuming that's cheaper than concrete. No way we're clever enough to do what you're doing. Re: Concrete Swimming Pool - Owner Builder in South Australi 51Feb 17, 2017 10:09 pm Thank you for your kind words. I sub-contracted the pool build and did the paving and glass pool fence myself. I don't think I am any cleverer than you. I just started at the beginning and asked each trade along the way if they could recommend someone for the following stages. These trades all work together and it is quite a small group of people - they all know one another in the industry. Yes, generally speaking a concrete pool will cost more than a fiberglass one and it will also take longer to install. I am very happy with the final pool finish and the equipment installed (Pool Pump Station/Filter/Chlorinator) Good luck with your pool. Andrew Re: Concrete Swimming Pool - Owner Builder in South Australi 53Mar 18, 2017 8:07 pm Hi, Yes, The Swimming pool was only 1meter from the house foundation and I had to ensure that the house foundation had piering (2 lots of 2 meters wide by 1 meter below the bottom of the pool) What this meant was the pools shallow end was 1.1meters deep, Therefore, the house piering was to be a minimum of 1 meter below the depth of the pool floor. ie 1.1meters + 1meter = 2.1 meter pierre. How much did I end up saving? I got quotes of $43,000 - 75,000 and it cost me $42,000 for a $75,000 build. I ended up using all the best/better parts. Better glass filter, better pump, included a spa blower jet in the lower end of the pool seating area. This is just for the pool. It cost me another $5,000 for the 22 linear meter glass pool fence with 2 x glass gates (quotes for the fence + gates were $9,000) Plus another $2.500 for the 5x5 meter timber decking. (Received quotes around $5,000) So If I paid someone else for a turn key solution, It would have cost me $75,000 for the pool, $9,000 for the fence and 2 gates, plus $5,000 for the decking. A total of $89,000 It cost me $42,000 for the pool, $5,000 for the fence and 2 gates, plus $2,500 for the decking. A total of $49,500 So yes, very close to a 50% saving. It was a saving of 45% however, a lot of hard work. Having said that, I am on a fixed income. What I mean is I do not get any overtime therefore this is like me working a second job. Instead of me working at coles or dan murphy's in the evening doing night fill, and having a turn key solution, I am effectively doing this myself, with a similar result. Good luck with your pool.
