Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Jul 23, 2014 8:18 pm Our build is finally underway. Once they started, each stage has happened quite quickly. 14/7 - Excavation (and removal of 110 tonne of fill ) 18 - 19/7 - Steel laid and formwork done 22/7 - shell poured Looking at mid August for the coping and waterline/water feature tiles. Just have to decide on those - nothing like leaving that decision to the last minute The hard part now is co-ordinating our trades - the pool builder is doing the coping but we're getting someone else to do the feature and waterline tiles, so we have to have him ready to go when the coping is getting done. The landscaper has to be aware of what is happening as he is doing the rest of the tiling, concreting, pool fencing. Plus we have to get the electrician in to hook everything up. My head is spinning! The pool is 1.2 - 1.8 metres deep. Water feature with a 900mm blade flow. This is the size and location of the pool: Wiz Built @ Brooks Reach Built the Verdelho Guest with Beechwood Re: Pool build underway....finally! 2Jul 30, 2014 2:28 pm Congratulations, looks nice. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THE FOLLOWING: If you have chosen a salt water pool, with a porous paver (sandstone, limestone, concrete etc.) you will need to consolidate the area from salt attack. A penetrating sealer will not resist salt attack alone. If you need any further help let me know. I have seen to many people not be mad aware of what can happen and when it does happen the client is left holding the baby, looking to blame someone. Thank you for that info miteq, looks like we are going with granite which isn't as porous, but I will make a note of that when the stone goes down. I can't quite tell if you are building pool before house or if you already have a house. Our pool should be starting soon and I'm hoping what is removed from the pool can be used elsewhere on our site works. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Pool build underway....finally! 5Aug 01, 2014 12:02 pm housebythewater Very exciting. Took the PB a long time to get started. Hoping it will all be done by summer. We have had a heap of rain in the past few weeks which has pretty much halted progress. Instead of getting the PB to do the coping we're getting our guy to do it, he will also do the waterline tiles and feature stone. But we also have to juggle getting our boundary fence put up, digging trenches for the electrical, moving a lot of soil. So frustrating, can't do A until C is done, but wait, have to get B done, then D!! I am hating this whole process at the moment, the mess, the expense. I so hope it will all be worth it Wiz Built @ Brooks Reach Built the Verdelho Guest with Beechwood Re: Pool build underway....finally! 8Sep 13, 2014 9:55 am I remember our bloke - out there in driving rain - digging. We've had the trenches dug (me!) and electrician has laid the conduit/cables for the earth wire, pump and lighting. Also moved our air con about 2 metres further away from the pool. Our initial plans the air con was fine where it was as the pool started further back and ended further away from it, but as we amended plans the pool ended up a lot closer. We didn't want the aircon on the inside of the pool fence. Yet another unbudgeted expense Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Wiz Built @ Brooks Reach Built the Verdelho Guest with Beechwood Re: Pool build underway....finally! 10Oct 06, 2014 1:13 pm Finally, finally, finally things are moving with our pool and surrounds. Our neighbours, after much stuffing around, have installed the timber retaining so we can get the concrete done - tomorrow! The landscaper is coming tomorrow to finish forming up and concrete will be poured later in the day. Starting to believe we may just be swimming by Christmas! Pool edging looks super neat now - is that more concrete work? (Excuse my ignorance.) http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Pool build underway....finally! 12Oct 07, 2014 8:53 am housebythewater So are those pipe pieces sticking out of the concrete pool walls for lights? Pool edging looks super neat now - is that more concrete work? (Excuse my ignorance.) The pipes next to the house are for a future solar connection. The pipes down at the back fence is where the pump will be. You can't see the lights as the conduit runs under the blue metal. The pipes inside the pool is the water filter, and the lights themselves are on the other side of the pool (closest to the house). The inside and edge of the pool has been rendered ready for the coping and waterline tiles, that's why it looks so neat. Concrete getting poured today, although I woke up this morning to rain! Typical, every time we look at doing concreting it rains Starting to clear up now, so fingers crossed it gets done. Wiz Built @ Brooks Reach Built the Verdelho Guest with Beechwood Re: Pool build underway....finally! 13Oct 07, 2014 9:00 am Thank you. We have similar pipes and I (probably wrongly) assumed they are for lights. We plan to solar heat later too. I'm going to need some good pool function lessons soon - the problem with not being able to get to site and the landscaper using a sub-contractor. No direct contact between me and pool builders. I will have to remedy that. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Pool build underway....finally! 14Oct 07, 2014 7:28 pm Concrete surrounds was poured today. We're using white granite for the paving and coping, it's very much non slip, it's probably a bit lighter than I wanted to be honest, I would have liked the grey, however I don't want the pavers to get really hot so stuck to the white. I'm pretty sure once the pool is finished, fences up, some landscaping done plus the decking next to complete it will look fabulous (fingers crossed anyway!) It's not really white, it's got flecks of gray/black in it. You can sort of see a couple of piles of it in a few previous pictures.
