Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Jun 27, 2014 8:57 pm Hi All, Our builder will be running our cabling for our spa next week but haven't decided what sort of spa we want yet,the house will be completed in November so we are running the cable now from the meter box thru the house to the backyard so we can conceal it and save on digging trenches. We have looked at 32,15 and 10 amp spas but will buy the spa after the house is built. For example could we run 32 amp wiring and run a 10 or 15 amp spa off this? We also want a heat pump (15 amp) so we will want to run this with the spa wiring? Are there spas that require higher than 32 amp wiring? We are looking for a 5-6 person spa so nothing like a swim spa. Any help would be great Re: Pre wire spa cable 3Jun 30, 2014 7:33 pm Thanks wheeliworks, Is it worthwhile running the 32 amp with a separate 15 amp wire for a heat pump, or do most heat pumps run off the spas power supply? Re: Pre wire spa cable 4Jun 30, 2014 8:22 pm ours heats off our 32 amp. we were advised to go this way by the sparkie installing the cabling. we have a 6 person spa. we have been in a few years and got our spa last december but had cabling done in Novemeber in prep. The sparkie just cabled to the wall( brick )and left the cabling unconnected in a loop there on the external house wall until the spa was delivered. We pretty much knew the size and location of our spa by then though so it was a simple matter or planning where we wanted the cable to come out of the wall etc. Spa is about 2 m from this point. Re: Pre wire spa cable 5Jun 30, 2014 9:28 pm Thanks Kez, We may as well run the 15 amp, if not used for the heat pump we'll probably use it for a TV or lighting or something else. Re: Pre wire spa cable 6Jun 30, 2014 9:39 pm We are double brick here in WA. So our cable was run through the roof and then down the cavity wall. When he did the cable run for the spa we also got him to run a 2nd cable for a double all weather power point and a light. We got this installed then. We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds.
