Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Apr 13, 2014 9:11 am Hi All, We've signed up with Metricon to build our dream home and are now at planning stage to build the dream pool. Still doing our research on concrete vs fibreglass and have found this forum to be a wealth of information. Has anyone built with Crystal, Domain or Splish Splash Pools? Thanks Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 2Apr 14, 2014 8:31 am We didn't get quotes from any of those - hadn't heard of them at the time, in fact. We had quotes from Pacific, Blue Water and Resort. We steered clear of Blue Water after doing some Google research. Pacific seemed good to deal with, however their pricing had a few holes in it (hidden extras). So, we went with Resort whose quote was all inclusive (we liked that), plus Google didn't bring up anything scary. Build progress was initially quick, until their construction supervisor resigned over Christmas, and then everything ground to a halt. The 11 week build ended up being a 5 month build, and then we had a stalemate over the solar heating installation (Resort seemed to have cash flow issues). Eventually we varied the contract to remove the solar heating, and we arranged that ourselves within a week, at a lower price than Resort had quoted us. The quality of work done by Resort is excellent, and their pricing is competitive and has no hidden surprises (not the cheapest, not the most expensive) but communication is poor, and delivery to schedule is poor. If you are not in a hurry they may still be an option for you, and might be worth having them quote. The construction supervisor who left Resort was good to deal with when he was looking after our pool build, and I understand he has started his own pool company now .... http://www.xzibitpools.com.au/ Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 3Apr 14, 2014 9:53 am Thank you for the feedback! I'll check out Xzibit Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 4Apr 14, 2014 8:55 pm We have decided to go with a fibreglass pool - there a lot of colours to choose from and they don't look like fibreglass. i was talking to someone on the weekend and he mentioned that concrete pools can have chemical leakage problems. We are getting mineralised water - it doesn't sting eyes and tastes like drinking water. Meant to be really good. Fibreglass is a lot cheaper than a concrete pool. Craning a pool shell over your neighbour's house or over power lines will add to the cost, due to the extra price of hiring a larger crane. By "mineralised water", do you mean the Magnapool concept? If so, you should probably Google more about it - general consensus is that it's mostly hype, with higher running costs. Whether you go with concrete or fibreglass, all the other associated bits and pieces cost the same anyway - pumps, filters, fencing, landscaping, plumbing, electrical, excavation and cartage, heating etc. Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 6Apr 16, 2014 9:20 am Sheilzy Hi All, We've signed up with Metricon to build our dream home and are now at planning stage to build the dream pool. Still doing our research on concrete vs fibreglass and have found this forum to be a wealth of information. Has anyone built with Crystal, Domain or Splish Splash Pools? Thanks We used Compass - and it went ok. Lots of choices. Google them. Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 7Apr 17, 2014 8:56 pm Thanks for the replies everyone. Retrobyte, we had Paul from Xzibit come out to give us a quote today. He made some really good suggestions about how we can get as many of the features on our wish list within our tight budget. It'll be interesting to see how he compares to Domain Pool. Mike, I'll check out Compass. Shambini, DH isn't keen on fibreglass. I did call Narellan Pool to get an idea of price and I was a bit surprised that the cost is about the same as the concrete estimates. Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 8May 19, 2014 1:38 pm We got a quote from Splish Splash but he was a bit too expensive for us. It came down to him doing the project management or me doing it with a cheaper builder. However, splish splash has been really professional to deal with and I think he'd do a fantastic job, I've suggested to friends that they contact him. Good luck, it's a bit of a "journey". by the way, we haven't even started out pool but the costs are going up up up. by the time you add your tiles, fence, landscaping, heating system, pool cover etc etc Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 9May 27, 2014 12:51 pm Hi @Sheilzy We got quotes for both Fibreglass and concrete we found them almost same with a few thousands difference. Fibreglass companies will recommend their products and concrete will recommend concrete. We went with Damian pools small business the owner Bill will do all quotes and follow up, he will also be the site supervisor on your site. We are very happy with his work. Where are you building? our house is still at slab stage, so if you are in the area you can come and have a look at our pool. Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 10Aug 05, 2014 12:33 am Hi, We had 5 quotes for our pool as we didn't have any recommendation to go off. Our quotes were from Crystal, Premier, Sunrise, Wright and Domain Pools. After many meetings, and many visits to all the pool companies finished pools all over Sydney, we decided on going with Domain Pools. Their knowledge was far beyond the companies, their customers all very happy with them and the quality of their work looked better than the others (I'm fussy with finishes). Domain wasn't the cheapest and they had a long waiting list but I'm hoping our experience will be worth the wait. They are due to start our pool in Dec 2014, so it's a while off yet, but even though we only signed with them 3 weeks ago, they already have our build approval ready. They promise an 8 week build which seems fast after much reading on these forums realising that pool companies promise the world and deliver nothing. I'm fairly confident we made the right decision and will keep up posting the feedback once we start the build. Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 11Aug 05, 2014 7:55 am @simplelife88 that's so exciting they are due to finish our pool in dec. 2014 the excavation and concrete has already been done as we are building the house at the front. I've previously said I agree Bill from domain is the best in the business. http://buildingourhomekellyville.blogspot.com.au/?m=1 Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 12Jan 25, 2016 2:18 pm SimpleLife88 Hi, We had 5 quotes for our pool as we didn't have any recommendation to go off. Thanks Karen Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 13Jan 30, 2016 12:38 pm Hi Karen, Yes extremely happy with Domain Pools. They started right on time and finished up in only 6 weeks. I was amazed how quickly everything went considering they worked right through the Christmas break. Funnily enough by the end of the build they actually refunded us $1,200 as they said they found a mistake in their original quote. We didnt have any rock or other extras, so we actually ended up paying less than the original signed contract, which seems to be quite the opposite of what most people say when they have finished their pool build. Some neighbours down the street are in the middle of a pool build with Premier and they are already taking 4 months and still nowhere near finished. They told us nobody is supervising the site and costs have escalated significantly, so they are not too happy. When we told them about our build, they said they wished they talked to us earlier about it. JJ Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 14Feb 04, 2016 6:17 am Thanks for the information. How big was your pool? Did you go fully tiled? Did you go heating? What filtration system did you get and have you had any problems? Just trying to get a rough idea of everything. Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 15Feb 09, 2016 7:30 pm Hi Guys, Rang Domain Pools today but they don't do pools in Maroubra. Not now anyway. They are very busy as it is. I need anther pool builder that will service the Maroubra area. Thanks in advance. Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 16Feb 18, 2016 5:41 pm OK a bit of an update. I've had x3 companies quote for a 3.5m w x 2.5m l x 1.5m d size pool. Quote 1 was from Adriatic Pools (Recommended by Domain Pools) $55,000 Quote 2 was from Pacific Pools $46,000 Quote 3 was from Blue Haven Pools $36,000 No I was intending to go with Adriatic Pools because he was recommended by Domain but he's just quoted himeself out of the ball park! What should I do next? Re: Sydney Pool Builders - recommendations please! 17Feb 24, 2016 1:14 pm Any ideas guys? I need a good pool builder in the Maroubra area.
