Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Mar 21, 2014 3:22 pm Hi There I've always wanted a pool - it's a bit of a dream of mine. When we bought our house, I made sure we bought a house with enough room to fit a pool should ever I be able to realise my dream . So now I'd really love to investigate whether pool is an option - $ wise. We will go and check out pool places to start putting together our own sense of costs, but they are all a fair drive away and my hubby works Saturday, and most not open on Sunday (well, the couple that we have looked up). So I was just wondering if someone could give me an idea - if we wanted to put one in by next summer (I can keep dreaming ), we would have around $45k to play with. My question is.... would we be able to put in a small fibreglass underground pool (say 3.5m x 7m if that is all we can afford)- with basic/budget trimmings (would like a glass fence but if that has to come later, so be it), no fancy landscaping or plantings (again, this can come later), either some exposed agg around pool or basic pavers). We really just want to get the pool in (and functioning) with whatever "trimmings" are required for use (ie fence, paving). The rest we can work on later - I don't need it to be finished to magazine photo standards as soon as it's installed. Even if we are only $10-$15k off the mark, then at least we know we could maybe just wait an extra year. But if we are tens of thousands off the mark, I think we'll give up the dream for a while and put the money into something else and come back and revisit the pool dream in a few more years. Anyone able to give an idea of if we could get away with it? Or ways we could reduce costs even after speaking to pool companies themselves? Cheers HHCIB Re: Pool Budget 2Mar 21, 2014 9:56 pm Not sure where you are but we went with Riviera Pools (Rockingham but branches around Perth) and got a 7.6 x 3.8 fibreglass pool for around $21K all in (earthworks, fitting, plumbing, electrics, pump, Chlorinator, Bull-nose edging). That would leave you $24K for fencing and paving. Not done ours yet (doing fencing ourselves) but that seems more than adequate. Re: Pool Budget 3Mar 21, 2014 11:01 pm haha I was going to recommend Riverina pools. I did a bunch of research on fiberglass pools and I think they come up very high. They use their boat building experience gained from Leader Marine. Remember a fiberglass pool is just like a boat just the water is on a different side. Seriously though you should be able to get a really nice set up for your budget. I was looking at an 8 x 4 at the time and I think all in with frameless glass and stone edging etc was going to be less than 30k. Check them out. Cheers mark Re: Pool Budget 4Mar 22, 2014 10:26 am Well that's heartening, thanks guys . And sorry for omitting the location - but we are in SE MElbourne. oncewerefurriers That would leave you $24K for fencing and paving. Not done ours yet (doing fencing ourselves) but that seems more than adequate. Curious - how can you install a pool but not have the fence? I would have thought that due to regulations, pool fence would need to be completed before or during pool fill? So is it possible to not have fence up straight away? Or is there a window of time they allow to put the fence up? How does it work? oncewerefurriers Not sure where you are but we went with Riviera Pools (Rockingham but branches around Perth) and got a 7.6 x 3.8 fibreglass pool for around $21K all in (earthworks, fitting, plumbing, electrics, pump, Chlorinator, Bull-nose edging). And what about solar heating? Being in Melbourne, I think heating is a must. Any clue how much we would be up for for heating? I would have imagined solar heating, but I think I read somewhere about new options for heating these days (possibly more expensive options though?). Cheers, and thanks again - gives me hope that a pool could become a reality for next summer or one after that latest . (Would just need to make sure we kept a lid on it and didn't get carried away by all the extras that are possible and all the beautiful landscaping options there and then). Thanks EmyN.... feeling quite hopeful that it might actually be do-able now - which is very exciting. Cheers again guys. You'll need to contact them to get an exact price. Re: Pool Budget 9Mar 23, 2014 5:37 pm Yep cool.... will do, thanks again SM. Love the look of some of their pools so definitely worth a look. Now to get serious of whether we want to get one in for this summer, or hold off another year or two. There are a few factors to consider - but it's just good to know that we could actually consider getting one this year if we really wanted to. Cheers folks. I would have imagined solar heating, but I think I read somewhere about new options for heating these days (possibly more expensive options though?). Depending on how close to your pool the nearest suitable roof area is, solar heating will cost roughly $3500-$5000 for supply and installation of matting or panels, controller, pump and pipework. HHCIB Let me say also - we got the heater (worth it I think and cheap to run) - auto PH and chlorine auto - although we do have a salt pool - AND - in floor cleaner - so no need for creepy crawly ... this cleaner is not a gimmick - it works VERY well. So worth a look. Re: Pool Budget 12Mar 24, 2014 4:35 pm Retrobyte How Hard Can it Be Curious - how can you install a pool but not have the fence? Re: Pool Budget 17Mar 24, 2014 8:34 pm Not sure if this varies state to state but we've been told by at least 4 places that they can just leave a temp fence (for a fee) until we have a fence installed. Our neighbour had their pool installed at least two weeks ago and still has a temp fence around it and is full. This is NSW. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Pool Budget 18Mar 25, 2014 8:55 am ours (Melb) had a temp fence until the paving was completed. We didn't shop around for quotes but our 10x4 FG pool was that much with no paving/fence. (did include solar and Salt chlorinator thingy). I've read in other posts where other cities seem to be more competitive in their pricing. Re: Pool Budget 19Mar 25, 2014 12:10 pm Give Albatross Pools a try, they have a show centre in Dandenong so you may be able to see some of their pools if not too far from you. They do steel side, concrete bottom pools that are lined with vinyl, so they are great value with a fantastic finish. I have had a fibreglass pool and a tile pool in previous homes and the fibreglass pool would have scratchy spots that would cut or abrade you and the tiles were much worse; lots of sharp edges after a few years of wear on the grout. The maintenance and wear on the concrete tiled pool is a pain too. We are getting Albatross to do our new pool, it is very large and a slightly unique design and they were about 30% cheaper than the concrete offerings, and the fibreglass guys couldn't make our pool at all.
