When we bought our house, I made sure we bought a house with enough room to fit a pool should ever I be able to realise my dream . So now I'd really love to investigate whether pool is an option - $ wise. We will go and check out pool places to start putting together our own sense of costs, but they are all a fair drive away and my hubby works Saturday, and most not open on Sunday (well, the couple that we have looked up). So I was just wondering if someone could give me an idea - if we wanted to put one in by next summer (I can keep dreaming ), we would have around $45k to play with. My question is.... would we be able to put in a small fibreglass underground pool (say 3.5m x 7m if that is all we can afford)- with basic/budget trimmings (would like a glass fence but if that has to come later, so be it), no fancy landscaping or plantings (again, this can come later), either some exposed agg around pool or basic pavers). We really just want to get the pool in (and functioning) with whatever "trimmings" are required for use (ie fence, paving). The rest we can work on later - I don't need it to be finished to magazine photo standards as soon as it's installed. Even if we are only $10-$15k off the mark, then at least we know we could maybe just wait an extra year. But if we are tens of thousands off the mark, I think we'll give up the dream for a while and put the money into something else and come back and revisit the pool dream in a few more years. Anyone able to give an idea of if we could get away with it? Or ways we could reduce costs even after speaking to pool companies themselves? Cheers HHCIB You can definitely get a 7m pool installed with lights, jets for 45K. the fencing and landscaping can be quite expensive. I found out that some pool company would readily discount their old stock of pool, I got offered a 10m pool for the price of an 8m with automatic chlorinator/jets/lights/robot/sand filter cartridge/3 speed pump with coping for $35K. Am in Adelaide. you have to be willing to go for the colours available though. most of them would give the lights for free anyway. Re: Pool Budget 25Jun 02, 2014 5:25 am just to go off topic a little, i have also wanted a pool just like you How Hard Can it Be, it's a dream of mine too. we are waiting for our titles to come through then we can start building and i would love to have a small pool 3x7 at least. now for the question do we need to upgrade the footings for the house or foundation? (not sure if this is the correct language) so that we do not compromise the integrity of the house? is there anything like that? - Build thread- My Allegra- Dream by Henley Re: Pool Budget 26Jun 02, 2014 9:46 pm evec just to go off topic a little, i have also wanted a pool just like you How Hard Can it Be, it's a dream of mine too. we are waiting for our titles to come through then we can start building and i would love to have a small pool 3x7 at least. now for the question do we need to upgrade the footings for the house or foundation? Depends on how close to the house you want the pool & also the depth of pool. If it is to be hard against the slab it will need piers under the slab to the depth of pool. If doing this get it organised before you sign the building contract otherwise the will charge you dearly to change it. It will depend how deep the excavation(not the pool depth) is and how close to your footings.Engineers will draw a line from the bottom of the excavation at a angle usually 45 degrees for clay and your footings have to be below that line or you will need underpinning. so the further you are away from your house the shallower the underpinning. Just on the language the way I have been told is the concrete below your brickwork is your footing.Your footing and the supporting soil below it is your foundation. I have started to do some research and am wondering what type is better-fiberglass or concrete? I love how the Albatrose pools are constructed using steel_ kind of nice. Experts in this area??? - Build thread- My Allegra- Dream by Henley Re: Pool Budget 31Jun 03, 2014 7:05 pm insider One thing to consider is if they will encounter rock during excavation which can make a big difference to cost. what area are you in ? we are building in clyde north circa estate, we are told there isn't much rock but you never know until they excavate - Build thread- My Allegra- Dream by Henley Re: Pool Budget 32Jun 03, 2014 8:48 pm No not much in that estate and if any it will be weathered rock and shouldn't be an issue to excavate you should get class "m" or "h1" classification if your block if it is not filled. When you get your soil test done ask them to do a deep hole at the rear of the block where your pool is going then you can show that to the pool companies and they can give you a more accurate quote. Oh wow we can do that? That is genius, thanx insider - Build thread- My Allegra- Dream by Henley Re: Pool Budget 35Jun 09, 2014 5:26 pm javiba You guys are making me cry with your prices! We've been recently getting quotes in the ACT for a pool similar to the OP's requirements and most are coming in at the around $60K to complete (though that does include ~$14K for the glass fencing and 36m2 additional paving). Someone mentioned the Compass X-Trainer 7.2. Our quote for this pool, supplied and installed was ~$33K plus, plus, plus ($9K infloor cleaning, $1.2K for two LEDs, $5K solar heating, $1k blanket/roller, $2.5K dirt removal(!), plus electrical, plumbing, equipment upgrades, coping, paving etc). Of course there's heaps of variables in any quote but we're just glad we've got a flat block with superb access to the back yard (we back onto a reserve). Being in Canberra we almost get used to paying exorbitant prices... but I still can't believe dirt removal isn't included. We got this one - so it might have been me ... But - if you include all the gadgets - eg in floor cleaner, heater, glass fencing, auto ph & chlorine feeder, water feature, rail, etc - you're going to be around $50k+. I don't care what anyone says. You can always get them cheaper - but you won't get the extras and/or it will look it. You get what you pay for. Having had it now for just on 12 months I'm glad we went the extra way and paid a little more. Listening to others who didn't makes me say thanks. Re: Pool Budget 36Jun 09, 2014 7:34 pm Saint Mike We got this one - so it might have been me ... ahh the guilty party! We've actually signed the bottom line for a Barrier Reef Pools Billabong 7.5m. The install is not going to happen for a couple of months due to their workload, probably a good thing else the kids will want to go christian the pool on a -2deg day! I actually asked another mob for a quote today and am considering doing an owner builder install of a fibreglass shell as well.
