Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Dec 01, 2013 9:40 am Hi, We're looking at a property that has a, I think, fibre glass pool that has been filled with dirt. It was filled in due to requirements from the council to approve development plans that didn't go ahead. I'm just woundering it would be possible to dig the dirt out and restore the pool? I assume they have knocked hole in it to avoid water collecting, but that should be possible to fix. Hopefully the old pump and filter is still there. Anyone done something similar? Cheers J Re: Dig out old pool that was filled with dirt? 2Dec 02, 2013 6:37 pm fiber glass pools cant be simply emptied usually. the water on the inside equals out the pressure from the dirt around the pool walls. Dirt pushing on dirt in your case. it would need to be braced just in case. Re: Dig out old pool that was filled with dirt? 3Dec 02, 2013 9:23 pm Ok, thanks. I've just read a bit more about it. They would probably just have emptied it out when filling it in and hence not being very careful about it. It might be pretty wrecked then I guess. Re: Dig out old pool that was filled with dirt? 4Jan 02, 2014 9:49 am Hi, I am from Vicpool Renovations. If they have done it properly they would have drilled or cut holes into the floor for the water to get out of the shell. We specialise in installing heavy duty vinyl liners in pools. We convert cracked and deteriorated fibreglass pools to take a liner which gives it a waterproof membrane to hold the water. We could patch the floor or as we have done in the past cut out the floor and pour a concrete floor. If you decide to dig it out check us out on www.vicpoolrenovations.com.au Hope this helps Regards, Barrie Re: Dig out old pool that was filled with dirt? 5Jan 12, 2014 10:18 pm FWIW, Logan council here in Qld require the following to occur to decommission a pool, but I don't know how common this is across Australia. 1/. Cut a hole 1m x 1m in the bottom of the pool, and photograph it for proof. 2/. knock down all the coping so that it is below ground level. We sold our house last year, and contacted the council as to what we had to do to decommission the pool, and that's what they told us we had to do. We left the pool intact and the next owners had 90 days to make to pool compliant (we didn't have a pool fence, as we were on 20 acres with a dam just as close by). Hopefully for you, that isn't why the pool is full of dirt. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
