Glass pool gate thickness?

Just getting quotes for our frameless glass fence. One is quoting on 12mm glass gate, one on 10mm and one on 8mm gate. Any idea of the pros and cons for the different thicknesses?
8mm gates are generally used in conjunction with spring hinges (not soft closing) I believe this is due to weight. 8mm gate with 12mm panels is a common practice, and if done properly doesn't look odd as the latch ensures its sits flush with the panels
10 & 12mm are generally used in conjunction with hydraulic hinges (soft closing).
I *think* 10mm can be used for either, but not sure.

Get some long brass machine screws and bolt right through the gate and put brass acorn nuts and washers on the other side. It will never come off
