Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Apr 23, 2013 10:45 am Hey there Does anyone know anything about circuit requirements for a pool ? We had our builder install (at additional cost) an extra power circuit at the back of the house as we were adding a pool after house completion. We're doing that now & sparky says we need 4mm circuit minimum, house builder says the 2.5mm they've installed is sufficient under Australian Building Code. I can't find any details of the code itself online to clarify - any help appreciated ! Re: electrical requirements for pool 2Apr 23, 2013 11:51 am The requirement is demand based & measured in amps not wire size A standard pool with a energy efficient pump , salt chlorinator ,led light Will draw about 6 amps in total. A electric heat pump will require from 15a to 30a Swim jets will normally require 25a circuts Gas heaters draw less than 1a to run controls & start If you are considering a portable spa or swim spa it will generally require between 25 & 50 amps Cheers andrew Re: electrical requirements for pool 3Apr 23, 2013 12:09 pm Thanks alot It's a 20 amp circuit with 2.5mm wiring - is that sufficient ? wheeliworks The requirement is demand based & measured in amps not wire size A standard pool with a energy efficient pump , salt chlorinator ,led light Will draw about 6 amps in total. He is saying "a 20 amp 2.5mm circuit will be enough power to run the pool gear but the 2.5mm earthing conductor within it is insufficient, this is why we run a seperate earth wire at a minimum of 4mm along with a pool circuit when the house is under construction."
