I am having trouble with spa chemicals. Everytime I return to my spa supplier I get told something different.
I need help balancing my Total alkalinity and pH.
Lately whenever i test my spa the TA levels are between 0-40 ppm according to my Test strips. The pH is also low around 6.2-6.8. I introduce alkalinity increaser and run a cycle then wait before retesting. My stips always show the same low levels. If i drop a small ammount of alkalinity increaser or pH decreaser onto the test strip right out of the container the colors change. I assume then the strips are still ok as they are only a couple of months old and stored well.
I used to treat with chlorine daily until told at the shop to only treat with spa shock after use. The Chlorine levels are very low on my test strip but the water in the spa looks and smells fine. There is no skin irritation from the water or stinging eyes.
Anyone got any help on how to overcome this and make life easier. Plus, is grocery store baking soda the same as the alkalinity increaser?? it heaps cheaper.
