Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Dec 12, 2012 1:33 pm Went through a few pages dating back a while and noticed there was no real help guide or questions about using a spa for the first time users out there (me). As a complete novice I have no idea where to start. I bought a house with a spa and want to start using it, as do the kids. So I will be going down to my local Pool and Spa place to ask a few questions and post the results here. If anyone has anything that can help point me in the right direction I would be greatful. At this stage this is what I have been told: - Initially the water should be tested twice a week when using the spa for the first time. After that, once a week should suffice - pH of water and Alkalinity need to be tested. - Don't leave the water stagnant. The filter must run between 3-4 hours a day, this includes while you are in it. - pH needs to be between 7.4-7.6 - Alkaline between 125-150 Re: First time Spa users. 2Dec 12, 2012 3:27 pm Correct, also always add a cap of sanitiser when you get out after each use, this will keep your levels better, if you have heavy use age you will also need to shock the spa as well. It is also good practice to do this every month with a filter change.
