Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Oct 09, 2012 7:45 pm Hey Okay we are building a new home and we are looking at have a pool in the back yard. One of the end of the pool will be 1.35-1.5m away from the end of the house. The pool itself we are looking at will be fibreglass. Attach below is the plan that I am looking at for the outdoor and pool area. The outdoor and area around the pool will be decked(proper decking not deck on concrete). I have spoke to many Pool places and some builders and they said this should be fine to do, but one builder came back today and has said that it will be hard to build that close and will cost a lot of money. Due to if it leaks down the track you will have problem with it going under the house, so better footings will need to be inplaced which will cost a lot of money. Can anyone in the know give me any information on this please? If to close what distance is far enough? Thx for any input Re: Pool close to house? 2Oct 09, 2012 8:38 pm Our pool builder and house builder said that the rule of thumb was, the pool should be at least as far away from the house as it is deep. E.g. ours is 1.8m at it's deepest, and is 2.17m away from the house, so no probs (fibreglass as well). If it was closer than that it was more that the slab would need extra footings or something. We were recommended to have fibreglass rather than concrete, due to the fact that the ground around here moves a bit when it hasn't rained for a while, and in those conditions concrete pools tend to crack so fibreglass is better. It does require the edge of the slab (or footing) to have piers down into the earth below the zone where the pool shell will have influence over them. It does cost a bit more, e.g. 15m of pool edge up against our house was going to costing about $3200 in piers under the slab. As a side note, to build over the top of 13m of sewer line, it was going to cost over $10000 to do with piers and bridge footings! ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Pool close to house? 5Oct 09, 2012 11:42 pm Thx a lot for the replys this give me some more know and its good to know it wont cost me to much more if I need to extend the piers. All info supplied was great thought this was going to put a hold on the pool. But that will be when i find out the sewer line where I want to put the pool lol Blake Pool close to house? 7Oct 10, 2012 8:27 pm It depends on the depth of the footings on the house, the finished height & the depth of the poo. we often do fibreglass pools as close as 200mm to a house . lF you have a bench seat in the pool design it also allows for a closer fit. Best way to check depth of footing is to dig hole beside house until you get to the bottom of concrete. Re: Pool close to house? 9Oct 18, 2012 2:01 am Hey To all thx for your input i guess a pool is an option still with it being close to the house as long as I go about it the right way. Wheel Thx alot fot the pics it good to see how it all works and some finish products. Blake Re: Pool close to house? 10Nov 04, 2012 10:41 am We'd been told a rule of thunb was 2 metres from a slab.
