Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Oct 04, 2012 1:02 pm Hello – I'd like to get advice on my neighbours constantly humming spa! They have a 4X4 outdoor spa, which sits in line with our back door and patio (about 10 feet away). Recently it's started emitting a low frequency motor drone hum 24hrs a day. Ive asked them about the noise and they said the spa was only recently fixed and the timer should run only twice a day, for about 10mins. Well, I can hear when the spa pump turns over, it makes a really loud whoosing and bubbling noise then stops after about 10mins, which is fine and tolerable. BUT the humming noise is constant – I can hear/feel it through the house, even with the doors closed. We have bubbling water feature out the back and I can also hear the motor humming over that too. I am going CRAZY! Can anyone help pinpoint what the heck is wrong? Is it normal to hear a spa motor low hum 24/7? Does it sound like their spa is not working properly? Any advice most appreciated, before I go back and talk to them – AGAIN! They have stated that its normal operating noise but that doesnt sound right! Thanks Re: Questions about spas - why would a motor be running 24hr 4Oct 04, 2012 6:05 pm Could be the filter running, you can set it to run for 24 hours, some run for say 4 hours 2 times a day, others once for x amount of time, whats happened is if its been fixed recently its probably been factory reset to run 24 hours, best setting however very annoying for the neighbours, also wouldnt like to see their electric bill either. If its deffo not the filter it could be the heating element is on its way out, however a constant humming noise would make me think its one of the pumps. Their spa has a 24hr circ pump, which means unfort it does need to run 24hrs a day (purely for their own benefit as app this keeps the temps fairly even constantly and uses less electricity). It's still REALLY annoying though, esp knowing we can't get away from it at any time He said he would get the spa tech back again but I don't hold much hope!! From what i've read, these types of pumps are meant to be really quiet, so I can only hope there is something wrong and that it breaks really soon! Questions about spas - why would a motor be running 24hrs? 6Oct 06, 2012 7:27 pm Even the quietest pumps will emit some sort of humming noise, shouldn't be to loud but it is one of those annoying noises that once you know is there can be heard very clearly. Not a lot you can do unfortunately.
