Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Sep 22, 2012 4:03 pm Hi, Im on a pretty tight budget (20K) and was looking to see if its practical / possible to install a fiber glass pool myself or at minimum contribute something towards the installation that will save money. I know i could buy a DIY kit for around 14K, but don't have any knowledge about installing a pool. Would a pool company allow me to hire my own tipper, have the soil certified as clean fill and dump it myself? That would save a few grand on a 60 Tonne load is guess. Ive got a lot of men willing to help out but i guess they would need a professional to direct them? Would i be able to hire a bobcat driver & excavator myself and use them or do you need a person with special pool skills? Our existing above ground pool just died so we were really financially ready but would love to have something for the summer. Any tips / pointers appreciated. Installation of Fibreglass pool - Money saving tips 2Sep 24, 2012 11:36 am Where are you? There's a company in Perth called Palm City they specialise in second user pools on average about 5 grand cheaper than new they come with new gel coat etc and new accessories. We had a look the other day worth considering if on a budget. Im in NSW so a bit far to ship a pool i guess. Ive looked on e-bay for 2nd hand ones but then you risk having no warranty. Does anyone have any calculations for installing a 7m x 3.5m pool i.e Hours required for excavator, bobcat, crane hire etc Also volumes of gravel for backfil? volumes of concrete required? Thanks Re: Installation of Fibreglass pool - Money saving tips 4Sep 24, 2012 4:26 pm im following this one closely..... I am also looking at doing this, a small fiberglass plunge pool, say 5 x 2.5mt can get the pool delivered for around $9,000 can get filtration and solar for around $2,500 now Ive been quoted EXCLUDING PERMITS or FENCE or WATER $21,000 installed!!! Im struggling to see a small plunge pool like that where the $10,000 installation goes?? initial calcs, say something more like crane hire (4 hour block ) $400 excavator/bobcat and dump truck x 1 day $1200 backfill gravel $500 concrete beam $800 now dumping that small amount of fill maybe $700 plumbing $1000 so total lets say 5,000 do you really save 5,000 doing it yourself? Re: Installation of Fibreglass pool - Money saving tips 5Sep 25, 2012 9:32 am Hi. Im pretty much along the same lines as you. I would be providing all fencing, pavers and applying for permits etc. I think your heavy machinery might be a little short. I found the following quotes:- Medium Bobcat Hire - $90 per hours 15 Tonne Truck - $88 per hour 3 Tonne Excavator - $85 per hour The cost of dumping the soil i was told is $75 per tonne unless its clean fill then its $7 per tonne. Not sure how much fill you will have but i was told 7, x 3.5m = approx 60 Tonnes. Also i assume you will need sand for the bed in addition to the gravel for the back fill. Lastly im not sure if this is realistic to expect everything to be done in a day? Would we need to use the Bobcat on day 2 for back fill ? Re: Installation of Fibreglass pool - Money saving tips 9Dec 06, 2012 7:53 pm To save money on clean fill dumping, look for wanted ads on the Gumtree website. Depending on what state you're in, if you Google clean fill then there are other websites where you can search wanted ads or post your removal ad. These are popular in the eastern states. Many people are willing to receive clean fill for free if you deliver it to them, saving you the dumping costs. You just need to wait for an ad to come up near your area. It is definitely worthwhile keeping grass, concrete and any other rubbish separate from the fill if you can, because the dumping charge goes up exponentially (as mentioned in a previous post) for non clean fill. Anyone in Adelaide wanting to dump some clean fill in the next 2 months, please contact me! brokers will also be in a position to get you a better rate than the advertised rate most times. 6 5979 As a tradesmen get a private inspector although I don't think there worth it in their profession themselves the reminder they serve to the tradesmen doing the work is… 3 20573 I've just had a look at the website.
