Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Aug 26, 2012 11:16 am Can anyone help because I'm left feeling very confused by differing opinions from solar pool heating companies! Which is better panels or the tubing? Having heard a few nightmare stories about tubing regarding the connectors perishing, we had thought we would go with panels which are a bit more expensive but we were told more efficient & with lifetime garuntee. Then, next company tell us that the panels not as efficient & only used for commercial or steep roofed properties. Any ideas on what to believe...before we spend our money!!!!! Thank you Re: Solar pool heating 2Aug 29, 2012 11:03 pm i was looking at going solar and then priced it up and i am now goinmg Gas. you will be surprised how much gas is compared to complete solar system. Gas heats quicker and you only nned to turn it on when you need it so more efficient then running solar all the time. my research lead me to beleive that Mats are the way to go, but there are different types and quality of mats.... Also depending on where you live cockatoos maybe an issue as they like the mats. I did found one company based in Nowra from memory that claim to produce bird proof mats. Re: Solar pool heating 3Sep 11, 2012 8:05 pm Our friends went gas, had it on for one season but after receiving the gas bill, never turned it on again(except for their spa), the gas bill was around $1000/month my DH works in the gas industry and the mj's required to heat the pool as a one off is exorbitant, we are going solar, most likely the cockatoo proof mats. Solar pool heating 5Sep 11, 2012 8:54 pm Gas heating for pools under 6m long or less than 15000 liters of water is very cheap. Once you go over that it gets expensive. The cocky proof solar panels is the best option . Re: Solar pool heating 6Sep 11, 2012 9:27 pm wheeliworks Gas heating for pools under 6m long or less than 15000 liters of water is very cheap. "very cheap" not trying to pick bones here but can you please estimate in your opinion how much it would cost to raise a pool (14,000lt) say 7 deg with NG over solar costs? I could learn something here. Solar pool heating 7Sep 12, 2012 9:58 pm The following are based on feedback directly from customers . 4m x 1.7m x 1.2n deep pool apx 6000 liters. Using a 150mj heater will generally raise water temp by 10 deg in 45mins & capable of reaching 38 deg. Average cost per year $200 using twice per week A 6m x 2.5m x 1.5 m deep apx 15000 lit using 170mj heater will heat water 9 deg in 2hrs on average customers report average cost per year of $300. Generally the larger pools are used less in winter than a smaller one. Gas gives you the flexibility to use the pool any time regardless of ambient temperature. If your having a party or get together you can guarantee a warm pool with gas heating Solar doesn't come close . Thank you You can compare the power output of most of the solar pool heating panel brands at the Florida Solar Energy Center website. Can't remember the web address but a google search would probably find it. Comes in handy when EVERY solar pool heating company out there says they sell the most efficient system. When i was comparing panels and rubber matting systems, i couldn't find any independent facts or figures on any brand of rubber mat systems! Plus ive had matting systems in the past and they didn't seem to last. I was really confused by all the sales talk to start with; i had one local solar pool heating company (solar matting system) tell me they invented solar pool heating! I looked into it a few years ago and my conclusion was to just build a carport that will support panels and get a system installed separately.
