Would the fencing or concreting be done first??? Probably thinking semi frameless to reduce cost a little - not sure if it makes a difference? Hey there MissEm, yes you would pour the concrete/limestone/paving FIRST prior to fence installation. Once the foundation is set, the installer will then core drill through the foundation and set the fence in a construction grout. Just make sure along the fenceline that the thickness of the foundation is at least 150mm for best results. Most installs like at least 100-120mm of "bite" into the slab without penetrating the bottom of the foundation. are you DIY'ing or pro installing? If DIY'ing then for sure look at fully frameless. Its really a no brainer as far as looks goes. Glass Pool Fencing Thread - ask your questions here 23Oct 30, 2012 10:06 am tengals are you DIY'ing or pro installing? Contractor 'A' has quoted me for a fence using Australian glass, with Duplex 2205 SS Mini Posts. Contactor 'B' has quoted for 'good quality' imported glass, and recommeneds and uses Mini Posts made from structural grade aluminium. The quote from contractor A is about 30 percent more expensive than contactor B. I'm hoping someone here can help me with some advice because I cant find much info from suppliers and stockists online. My questions are: 1. What kind of mini post is superior? I understand that SS Duplex 2205 is prob the best steel type available to avoid rust/tea stain issues, but I can't find any info on aluminium mini posts. Are the aluminium posts just as good? If not, why not? 2. My biggest concern with imported glass is that it will break safely (as properly toughened glass should). I don't want to have one of my kids lose an arm because I skimped on quality. Are there any real concerns with this with regard to the inported glass? 3. I live in an area that does sometimes get windy, although it is not rated as a high wind zone. I suspect that it might be better to restrict the length of my panels so that they can stand up better to wind force. Would you recommend a maximum panel size that is best to use? I know they can go up to two meters, but such a large 'sail' on two little mini posts worry me. Am I being over cautious? LOL. Thanks for any advice I can get! Thanks for any advice I can get! all great questions...... duplex 2205 is a great material to have as your spigots. But let me ask you this, have you seen duplex 2205? how would you know it was 2205 grade? if in fact he is quoting you that, then ask for a current materials report and to also put it in writing (warranty) that it is in fact 2205. I have seen fencers claim to use 2205 grade, and infact once the lab has tested it it has been 304 LOL. 2205 is great, but the price difference between 316L and 2205 is NOT 30 % . regarding the aluminium, well it's not apples and apples. I would NOT be using aluminium spigots personally around any marine environment (ie pool etc), aluminium pitts badly scratches easily and although strong, the average weight of a aluminium spigot is less than 1 kg. a 1800 x 1200 panel weights almost 80kg. No thanks. imported v's local. You need to find out if the actual persons installing the fence ar the direct importer or not of the glass? or they are just buying from an importer and or distributor. if you get to the source of the importer, then a simple "how do YOU test each batch", regardless of the glazing certification (which covers a 12 month period), either way, it will be toughened, stamped and 99% of the time will be to australian standards, no Bigger importer could take that risk. Either way it will not fracture into big pcs, it will do what it's supposed to do and any splinter cuts would be superficial. regarding the wind load. It is actually the middle of the glass panel that is the issue in areas of direct high wind. The centre of the panel can reverberate and if it picks up speed (frequency) it can in fact implode. Yes either smaller panels or add extra 3rd spigot. a 2mt panel should have a 3rd spigot anyway. P.S regular direct 20-25 knot winds is NOT considered "high wind area" your being a little over cautious, but hey so you should be, it's not cheap and you want it to be safe and last a long time. Glass Pool Fencing Thread - ask your questions here 27Nov 17, 2012 6:07 pm Hi again tengals, Just curious, what happens if the length required to fence does not exactly work out with the glass lengths?? Reason I ask is, we have been considering our options with the pool fencing, and have thought of a way which may be a lot more cost effective for us - see pic. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As the area is quite small, we thought rather than fence around the whole pool we could instead just close off the alfresco to the fence line and then have a gate at the side of the house which encloses the whole pool area. We have worked it out to be approx 7m of fencing. What do you think??? Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. We have never not been able to work something out. Remember for each gap you have upto 100mm to use. as long as there is no windows or doors in your situation then you plan looks good to me Glass Pool Fencing Thread - ask your questions here 29Nov 19, 2012 8:26 am There are 2 windows, no doors. Glass Pool Fencing Thread - ask your questions here 34Nov 19, 2012 2:11 pm I just read that you can screw in a screw to the window track and that will be enough to restrict it to open 100mm max. I think that will probably be the way we will go. Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. Thanks Re: Glass Pool Fencing Thread - ask your questions here 38May 27, 2013 7:52 pm Hi Tengals, Quick question - today we had our frameless fencing done and its come up great. Tomorrow the installers are coming back to remove the braces holding it level while the glue goes off and they have offered us a product called 'nano guard'. They are going to charge us $300 applied if we want it and just wondering if you know anything about it and is it worth it?? They said it simply makes cleaning the glass 'easier' and should last 7 years. Thoughts please?? Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes.
