Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Mar 19, 2012 2:17 pm Hi everyone, Just wondering is 1.7m wide too narrow as a lap pool? i'm hoping to fit it between the house and boundary fence (neighbour) and will prob be around 20m long. Another thing to mention is that it will be running along the side of the house and right along the fence. The problem with this option is foundations, and if ever we need to clean / repair the windows along that side of the house, then it will be a good challenge getting to them. What are your thoughts? Is it wiser to go for a 11m x 3m pool along the back of the house? Re: pool width and placement 2Mar 19, 2012 2:49 pm I would say 1.7m is pretty skinny even for a lap pool. Most of the fibreglass lap pools are 2.8-3m wide. Of course, concrete can be made to any size. Do you just want to be able to swim laps or use the pool for recreation as well? There are definately implications about having your pool so close to your house as far as foundation go & plenty of $$$$ - I think cleaning your windows will be a minor issue in comparison. Do you have any easements on your block?? Personally, I would love a lap pool but unless it is at least 15m long I think it is pretty close to useless as a lap pool - unless you are a super star at tumble turns?? So 11x3m is not going to be very good for laps. Just my opinion!! Do you know much about the swim spas?? might be an option. I'm not sure where you are at with your home but I would be getting a few companies to site to discuss your options. Re: pool width and placement 3Mar 19, 2012 5:03 pm You should carefully consider the intended usage of you pool 1.7 wide would be ok if the sole purpose of the pool was for 1 person to use for training. If pool is for a mixture of recreation and a bit of swimming a 11 m pool could work. A smaller swim spa may be more versatile. Use for swimming, spa jets, general kid fun and can be heated quiet cheaply for year round usage. also very low running cost Cheers andrew pool width and placement 4Mar 19, 2012 5:59 pm I'd really reconsider the placement of the pool. If it's bounded by the house on one side, and the fence on the other, how much access around the pool to get access from the side? Will you be able to access the sides of the pool, should someone have to be rescued? Personally, I think that's a more important consideration (and one often forgotten) than cleaning windows, and whether you've enough room to swim laps Re: pool width and placement 6Mar 22, 2012 12:26 pm I was going to get a lap pool but ended up getting a 7 x 3 m pool and putting a Fastlane swimming machine in. This system really works and heaps better than doing laps. The money you will save by not going with an 11m pool will cover the costs of the machine, and if you have kids, they will love it! Cheers, Rina Hi Rina, Questions about your fast lane - Is the fastlane something that you organised through the pool company?? Did you have a concrete pool made?? Do you have any pics of how it looks ?? Can you use this type of machine in any size pool?? Sorry for all the questions. thanks.
