Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Dec 15, 2011 4:17 pm Hi, we are building a house on a narrow block and because of the access limitations, we had to put the pool in before the pad was poured. The pool will therefore be left stagnant (ie no pump cycling water etc..) for approx 12 months while construction of the house is completed and I can't seem to get anyone to tell me what I should be doing with the water during this period (you would think the pool company themselves would tell me, but they don't seem to know for some reason!). I have also spoken to pool places - one said "ooh, you're stuffed, it will be awful", another said "never encountered it before, I would just keep it dosed up with chlorine" and another said "hmmm, don't know, but if you don't keep water levels right, you will invalidate your pool warranty (fibreglass pool) as the lack of bromine (or something, can't remember what) will damage the fibreglass surface). So basically, I'm wondering whether there is anyone on here who has been in the same situation and been given a straight answer by their pool company in relation to this? We have covered the pool over with roof sheeting, so only a few pinholes of light are coming through at the moment (which we will plug soon). Re: pool maintenance while house under construction? 2Dec 15, 2011 8:32 pm we have a similar situation, we installed he pool before the house, we however connected the pumps etc and keep the pool maintained correctly. We have a temporary power lead going to the meter box until the power points are installed. We have a robotic cleaner that is plugged into a timer and auto turns on for a period each day. I will say we live on site, as its a large property and we built a smaller flat before the main house. So a bit easier for us, but if you have auto chlorinators etc then it shouldnt be a problem. You cannot let the water levels drop else the pressure of the backfill may collapse the walls of the pool. Letting the water stay stagnant I cannot imagine being a good thing, and could lead to the pool staining.I wouldnt want to be trying to clean it for use at the end of the build.
