Browse Forums Pools & Spas Re: Distance required for pool 21Jan 24, 2011 9:46 am Also, I will be using boundary fence for one side of my pool. I understand I must have 900mm clearance on my side from boundary fence...this is fine. Both ends of my pool is where I want the pool fence (not boundary fence) to be around 20cm from pool edge. It seems as long as the pool fence is 1200mm, it can be as close to the pool edge as you want? Re: Distance required for pool 22Jan 24, 2011 11:43 am I believe kassan1973 is saying 1200mm from the top of the water, to the bottom of the fence. i.e. 1.2 meters between the pool and the fence. Not from the top of the fence. I do know that if you use a boundary fence, assuming its the standard timber slats, the horizontal beams have to be on the pool side, not the neighbours side, so stop people climbing the fence. Milesy Re: Distance required for pool 23Jan 24, 2011 12:27 pm Oh! If that's the case, I'll have to redo the specs I've drawn up. I wonder if the 1.2m from pool edge to bottom of fence is something set in concrete? 0.8m is really the maximum we can go without heavily changing things. I wonder if 0.8m from pool edge to fence would be approved....I hope so. I've seen so many pools where the pool is so closed to the pool fence they're nearly touching! Re: Distance required for pool 24Jan 24, 2011 2:16 pm You may be able to apply for a mod. Just call a local building surveyor. You will need a building permit anyway. They will tell you 100%. Re: Distance required for pool 25Jan 25, 2011 10:26 am My post mainly refers to pool fencing and clearance zones for climbable objects. Go the BCA website and request info via there help section. Re: Distance required for pool 26Jan 25, 2011 1:32 pm Thanks mate. I just googled BCA pool fence laws and stumbled across a site (don't think it was the actual BCA official site but this site seemed up-to-date with all the latest regulations). One of the FAQ on this site was: Q. Is there a minimum distance that should be maintained between the swimming pool and the fence? A. It is recommended that there is a minimum distance of 1m between the edge of the swimming pool and the fencing. The key word being recommended. So it seems I can make the pool fence as close as I want. Re: Distance required for pool 27Jan 25, 2011 9:02 pm Agent_009 Thanks mate. I have recently put in a pool and our fence is within 30cm of the pool on one side. I looked into the rules a lot as we had issues with boundary fences, slopes etc. If the boundary fence is also the pool fence, it must be 1.8m high. If the fence is scaleable from the neighbour's side (trees, fence railing etc) you need to ensure there is a non climeable zone on your side such that there is nothing within 900m of the top of the boundary fence. I have an extract of the regs that my pool guy gave me - if you want a copy send me yr email (or I can send via pm, not sure?) Re: Distance required for pool 29Jan 27, 2011 8:12 pm Sorry Agent for not getting back sooner, the certifier did not turn up on Monday, so at this point I am not even sure if he came at all. Just be aware the laws between states can vary. Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Distance required for pool 31Jan 29, 2011 8:00 pm The NSW regulation is here http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/ ... pr2008283/ Basically, apart from a minor issue on separation from the house, it specifies the Australian Standard Queensland also specified the Australian Standard which means the regs are basically the same. The below link is from QLD gov and is much better than I could find for NSW http://www.dip.qld.gov.au/resources/gui ... elines.pdf Found the answer.
