Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Oct 31, 2010 4:15 pm Hi everyone My husband and I are about to start building our house in North Lakes (QLD) and I've finally convinced him to get a pool put in. He has put me on a budget though (around the $25k mark) as our land and the house we're building is quite costly. There's a few pool companies around this area that I've emailed such as Atlantic Pool, Pioneer Pools, Narellan Pools, Compass Pools and Barrier Reef/Seaside Pools but being the weekend I probably won't here anything back until Monday/Tuesday. From what I gather, Fibreglass is possibly a bit cheaper, but concrete pools tend to be warmer (?), concrete pools can also be built closer to the boundaries. I'm really trying to source aout the less expensive options in terms of what pool fence is best, paving, pebbles or concrete around the pool, solar heating? We're probably looking at roughly a 6 - 7m X 3-4 m pool, so not too big but big enough. I'm hoping to have a basic finished pool completed with everything in it for around $25k give or take. A few people I've asked have had pools installed and completed for under $30k. Our block is a corner block with plenty of side access. When is the best time to begin construction for the pool, while the house is being built or wait until the house is finished? Any thoughts or advise, or anyone used any of the above pool companies and what was your final cost price? Thank you in advance! Re: Pool help please!!! 2Nov 01, 2010 9:04 pm punky, Your budget will be close to a 7mx4m in fibreglass given standard type site conditions (i.e. they do not need to excavate rock or difficult access). In general, fibreglass pools are actually warmer than concrete due to thermal properties of each material. Our is currently around 27'c near the surface with a pool cover installed. You will need to look for a pool install of around $21k so you can allow approx $2k for the fence and a few other extras. Only main additionals from most pool companies will be water to fill, maybe $300 and connecting power for pump (if no power closeby) possibly another $300. From memory our's at 8x4.4m was $24.5k start off. We added spa jets, bigger pump, waterfall etc. Need any extra info, please let me know. That's great info and so glad to know that we can get something around our budget. Apart from the fence and maybe some landscaping around the pool, can you think you anything else that we will need that wouldn't be in the standard inclusions? I've never owned a pool before so want to make sure I think of everything. Also, do you have any recommenations on pool companies? So far the most helpful have been Barrier Reef Pool/Seaside pool constructions at Burpengary, Narellan Pool and Compass, although Compass did seem to be slightly more expsenive. I'm still waiting to hear back from Atlantic Pools and Panorama Pools. I've been told my many to avoid Blue Haven. Thanks for all the info, really appreciate it! Re: Pool help please!!! 4Nov 02, 2010 4:27 pm Hi punky Have you looked at Freedom Pools? They're located in Springwood. We ended up getting the Freedom 7 (6.7m x 3.5m) ... just enough for the kids (and us) to get in and cool down. They were really great to deal with and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them. We paid $24000 which included filling the pool, coping etc plus the Kreepy Krawley and the pool cover and roller. You can usually get really good deals at the Home Shows as well. We had ours installed after the house was built so that we could work out exactly where we wanted it. It's good to let your builders know where the pool will be going so they don't put any pipework in that area. I don't know about the other pool places you've been to but I have heard some things about B@rrier Pools If you check out my thread I've got some photos of the pool there ... hope I was able to help. Good luck with it all! Re: Pool help please!!! 5Nov 02, 2010 8:06 pm Punky, We went with Leisure Pools at Yatala. Excellent service and communication. I was home the day the hole was dug and shell installed so that was fun. Pebbles, your house and pool look amazing, I bet you're stoked with how it all turned out! I can only hope for the same positive build process! We're building with Indigo Homes and are still in the council stage so not much will probably happen until well after Xmas. I just have to convince my hubby that we can afford the extra $25k for a pool Hi everyone, Looking for some advise. We are about to build an above ground pool in our backyard.
