I've never had a pool installed before, but am considering one. I didn't know that they concreted the ground and then paved on top. Is this the norm everywhere? My newb mind would have just thought the paving goes straight onto yellow sand. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks! Re: How to instal a pool. 5Sep 23, 2010 2:21 pm Pool looks fantastic! Thanks! it is the norm & austrailian standard to concrete around top. but in wa in isn't the norm they pave straight on sand. this usually results in uneven paving & kicking toes cheers andrew Re: How to instal a pool. 9Sep 23, 2010 10:54 pm wheeliworks but in wa in isn't the norm they pave straight on sand. this usually results in uneven paving & kicking toes cheers andrew Usually, but not always. It really depends on your preperation I think. We paved directly onto sand around ours (see my profile pic to the left...that is the supervisor checking the levels). We had a 25+ yr old fibreglass pool that was ripped out and then replaced with a new one. Our old pool had pebblecrete around it, and paving around that. We never had any problems with movement of soil. One thing I would definetly recommend doing if you are going to pave directly onto sand is getting the whole area around the pool pencil compacted. It saves heaps of water in terms of bedding the sand down around the pool shell, and also gets you up and ready for a plate compactor. We used the guys from the following site; http://www.consolidationenterprises.com.au/pencil_compacting_around_pool_for_immediate_paving.html http://www.consolidationenterprises.com.au/page-24-pencil-compactions.html Once that is done, hire a plate compator and go over the area loads of times until the ground is nice and firm. I realise this isn't the preferred option for paving around pools, but in my opinion, I prefer knowing I have much easier access to pipework etc that getting through reinforced concrete Re: How to instal a pool. 10Sep 24, 2010 12:28 am wheeliworks RedIsotope Looks good! We just decided to incorporate it into our paving base. Re: How to instal a pool. 11Sep 24, 2010 12:33 am JML Great post. We have to wait 3 weeks just for the concrete to cure. Why did they fill the pool before doing the conrete? they always fill fibreglass pools asap to stop them from floating. Re: How to instal a pool. 15Sep 29, 2010 8:34 pm ggitt fairy blue pool fencing? Pool has reached 20 degrees so the kids have been in. To cold for me still Re: How to instal a pool. 17Dec 04, 2010 10:40 pm Now it is 32 degrees and we are swimming almost every day. Loving it. Re: How to instal a pool. 18Dec 05, 2010 11:33 pm Great work. We have solar installed on ours too. I find it works really well. Combined with the pool blanket, it can make the water feel like a bath. We were told to keep the temp to 30 as an absolute max though for fear of amoebic meningitis. Re: How to instal a pool. 19Dec 06, 2010 10:47 am Roughly how much does solar heating cost? Also, this is a bit off topic, but has anyone been to the Pool and Spa Expo in Brisbane? (I think it's also referred to as the SPASA Expo). We're thinking of waiting until May next year (this is when the expo occurs) in the hope of getting some major discounts. Is it worth it? Does this expo offer a lot of discounts/deals that will save coin? Or is it not worth it? Re: How to instal a pool. 20Dec 06, 2010 2:27 pm Agent_009 Roughly how much does solar heating cost? I don't recall exactly, but I think we paid somewhere between 3 and 4K for ours. It was well worth it though as we very rarely feel too cold when getting in the pool, and it extends the swimming season also. A common issue I hear from people who say they don't like pools is that you only use if for one or two months a year. We were in ours in October, and I think we'll be in it until March.
