Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Feb 23, 2010 2:22 pm Hello all My house is positioned to take up the entire width of the block (11mtr frontage) and would not be able to get a bobcat or dingo into the space where I want a pool (due to retaining wall). I am looking at my options towards an above ground concrete pool; the size would be 4mt wide by 3mt long. The styles that I have seen so far look great but am a bit stumped on the following:- 1. Would an above ground pool be cheaper than a below ground? Presuming no digging would mean yes but not knowing if the structure needs to be stronger I’m not 100% 2. Are there any allowances to be made for going above ground? 3. Should the $1250/lineal meter rough cost apply? I would go straight to a pool company to ask these questions but I am not living in the Perth at the moment and the build is just in the slab for stage. Thanks to anyone for their insight. Re: above ground concrete pool 2Feb 23, 2010 3:26 pm Will be more expensive due to more concrete, more steel and needs to be formed up with timber. I would imagine with decreased lot sizes, there would be other's that would have been in your situation. I would ring a few pool companies with the dimensions of your back yard and see what they say. Cheers I did some ringing this morning, I was surprised with the outcome. Fiberglass is a possibility, the company said they can frestand as long as the support was there for any protrusions. They can put a dingo through an opening and they will build a ramp to gain access from there or worst case they can hand dig (would be a pain of a job). I have found some fiberglass models that are the exact size I was after and have a rough idea of the price, when I am back in perth I will do some concrete pool shopping too. Re: above ground concrete pool 6Feb 24, 2010 3:37 pm Hi There If you do want to go fibreglass, I really recommend you pm "Michelle From Perth" for her experience with a pool group she had dealings with. Her information was invaluable for us in helping make our decision with our pool - confirming some of our fears that just didn't sit right with two companies we received quotes from. Just be careful of hidden costs that they aren't always upfront with. Have a look at this thread for further info: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=28932 Good luck. jbarry My build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25713 13th Oct - Offer on block 4th Dec - Settlement of block scheduled (delayed due to titles) 22nd Feb - Titles Issued 17th Mar - Land Settlement 17th Mar - Pre-start meeting Re: above ground concrete pool 7Mar 31, 2010 6:40 pm Dane83 Hello all My house is positioned to take up the entire width of the block (11mtr frontage) and would not be able to get a bobcat or dingo into the space where I want a pool (due to retaining wall). Often they can crane a small excavator into the site. So in ground may be possible Re: above ground concrete pool 8Mar 31, 2010 7:13 pm 700kg excavator with expandable tracks will fit thru a standard 820mm door opening and dig down app. 2 mtrs in depth. Conveyour belts for excavated soil will get rid of the need for a second machine in backyard. Concrete gets pumped in so no need for access for a conc. truck. They might have better access and only a timber fence that could be taken down for the time being and then put back up... If there is no access whatsoever to get a backhoe or bobcat in, how do you poor the concrete??? Or how do you get the steel/timber delivered? Carried through your front door?? I'm tyring to work out how you'd do it... I have a unit complex behind me and would get access through my neighbours properties. I have spoke to a pool supplier and they advised that they can fit a fiberglass pool in by craning it over the top of the house. I can fit a concrete pool in, they would pump the concrete down the side of my property. Once the house is complete I will decide on which option is best for me.
