Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Oct 30, 2011 6:21 pm Hi, we have just started looking at having an inground pool built. We are based in Melbourne and are in the process of organising a few quotes. Does anyone have any experience negotiating price with pool companies? Is the first quoted price generally "it", or is there room for a bit of a negotiated reduction? Thanks! Re: Are pool companies negotiable? 2Oct 30, 2011 9:18 pm I have no personal experience in this but in this financial climate I would think they would be as competitive as builders offering discounts to win your business... it wont hurt to ask, you might be suprised. Best of luck, Gandj Re: Are pool companies negotiable? 3Oct 31, 2011 7:55 am Pretty much every quote is negotiable!! You would be crazy to not try and get some $$ off. We are in Victoria and recently got some pool/spa quotes. One of the companies knocked $1000's off when they rang to see what we thought of the quote. We told them it was too expensive and they offered a much lower quote within seconds without any 'haggling'. For the record, we still haven't made up our mind which company we are going with. They are a business and need to make money but there is always room to move with just how much money they will make. Good luck. In the end we went with the pool builder who wouldnt budge, but when we went to sign, DH was a bit cheeky and said why dont we make it a nice even number was $41800, he agreed and we signed for 40k The biggie companies will overinflate their prices in the hope you wont negotiate (a bit like flight centre ) but will have room to move. The quotes we got were form small independant guys. Hi everyone, Looking for some advise. We are about to build an above ground pool in our backyard.
