Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Jan 31, 2009 4:08 pm We're thinking of building a lap pool in our backyard. We have an L shape yard and considering putting the lap pool on the side of the house. We were just wondering about the cost involved and if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations/advice. We're not serious swimmers, just want to have fun in the summer. Re: Do you have a lap pool? Any advice? 2Jan 31, 2009 4:23 pm No advice for you…but sounds like a good idea!
I wish I had one at the moment………….. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Do you have a lap pool? Any advice? 3Jan 31, 2009 4:40 pm We are in the process of planning one out. One of the biggest considerations is underpinning. Our pool is going to be literally against the wall of the hosue and come into the Alfresco. We had to make sure the whole side of the house was underpinned - somewhat expensive to do. We have kids so we are making sure one end is very deep to accomodate bombs and diving. A pool is a pool in the end and if space dictates it be a lap pool - it's still going to be a heap of fun in hot weather!!! Re: Do you have a lap pool? Any advice? 4Feb 01, 2009 7:38 pm We have gotten a few quotes now and for a high end pool company (Aloha Pools, Brighton Pools) fully tiled pool, salt chlorinated, water Feature, gas and solar heated about 3 x 7 metres we are looking at around the $40,000 - $50,000 mark. You can get them cheaper but it depends on the design and style you want. Re: Do you have a lap pool? Any advice? 5Feb 01, 2009 10:48 pm in our previous home we were looking at installing a 8.5m x 2.4m
lap pool. It was fibreglass with stone paver coping, fencing, pool pump and all the usual bits n pieces.. cleaner etc for around $25000 Re: Do you have a lap pool? Any advice? 6Feb 02, 2009 9:01 am Have any swimmers swum in a narrow lap pool ?. I've always been curious how it felt to swim in one, is it quite wavy ? is there any drag ? is the edges so close claustrophobic ?.
I swim at the local pool a couple of times a week and have always liked the idea of a proper lap pool at home but am worried that I'll spend $40k putting one in and then still have to drive to the local twice a week because its not as pleasant to swim in. Any advice? 7Feb 02, 2009 9:40 am We're putting in a lap pool as part of our pool - it's kind of L - shaped, so the lap part is the longest part, as it runs the length of the pool (if that makes sense!) The narrowest part will be 2.5m wide, but we may have to pull that in a bit. I'm wondering if anyone who swims can tell me if that's a decent widht? I hate swimming - I'll be ****** next to the pool enjoying looking at it!!!!!!!!!
Conchi, where are you? I can recommend a great pool builder who is much more reasonable than Natural Pools, or Aloha, or any of the big ones, but builds beautiful pools, fully spec'd . Ours will be quite big, fully tiled , with all the 'gadgets', and the cost was much less with this company than the 'big' ones. But you'd have to be in Melbourne! Any advice? 10Feb 02, 2009 11:47 am My parents built 10 duplex's and this is the pool that went in the complex. They lived there for about 3 years, I was a member of our local swimming squad and so did many laps in this pool. It was a 25 meter one and didn't find that it too wavy, no drag at all and I didn't feel claustrophibic. Two people could easily do laps in this pool without hitting arms

Actually thats a lovely width and length (25m in your own backyard how good would that be !) however I'm looking closer to the 15m x 2.5m variety Petal - I'm in the Eastern Burbs and after looking at the pic I really want a pool, can I please have your guy's number ? Any advice? 13Feb 02, 2009 2:18 pm From memory the width was around 2 - 2.5 m. Can't be sure as my parents don't live there anymore.
It was very lovely and serene, like you were in your own magic place. It's in Port Douglas thus all the tropical plants. And the round bit off the middle was a shallow play area for kids. Re: Do you have a lap pool? Any advice? 17Feb 02, 2009 7:19 pm No doubt there will be lots of pool places springing up around that area - seems like so much building going on around there! I don't know that area, though - sorry to be of no help at all!!!!!!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Do you have a lap pool? I take it that "lap pool" is being used here as a euphemism for narrow pool? You certainly can't do serious swimming in 7m or 8m length. You'll be spending plenty more than 40k if you want to exercise by swimming laps at home. 15m would be the absolute minimum, otherwise you'd just be doing regular turns and very little swimming. You can of course do the tether or jet option but it just isn't the same. Re: Do you have a lap pool? Any advice? 20Feb 03, 2009 8:55 am Petal, I'm in Melbourne, in NW suburb. You can pm me the company you are recommending- Thanks!
I rather not spend more than $25,000 on a lap pool. We still have an alfresco to consider putting in as well. Thanks to everyone else with your suggestions. A question.
