Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Aug 24, 2008 6:16 pm Hi everyone, I posted a message a while ago about benchtop colours and here I am again but this time I'm up to splashback colours.
I have a timber Tasmanian blackwood kitchen with NEW black granite benchtops. I am almost 100% sure that we will get glass splashbacks ( the more expensive ones that dont throw a green tinge). As you can see from the pics my colour scheme in my home. Im leaning towards a lighter colour similar to the walls ( they are very similar to dulux Ecru 1/2 strength ) however I have now painted about 6 pieces of glass from sample pots and I am still stumped on the colour? Anyones advice is most welcome Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: help needed - splashback colour 2Aug 24, 2008 6:26 pm Rachael….what colours have you tried? I have been told by various people ( in my family!) that a latte or mocha colour would look good. However I am a typical person who goes for whatever is in fashion now and regret it in a few years time.
thanks again Re: help needed - splashback colour 4Aug 24, 2008 6:40 pm I wouldn’t put a Latté or mocha with the timber.
How are you about greens? Do you like them? Sigh love the wooden cupboards. My DH doesn't otherwise I'd have loved some just the same as yours. Re: help needed - splashback colour 9Aug 24, 2008 7:31 pm If it's going to be clear glass I'd carry the exact wall colour thru as the splashback. The blackwood cupboards and black granite are such features in their own right, I'd really downplay the splashback and let them shine!
Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: help needed - splashback colour 11Aug 24, 2008 9:12 pm thanks for your help everyone.........I love this forum, I always get so many great opinions!. I told the glass guy who came out to measure etc that i may be swayed to have it the same as the wall colour and his response was that the splash back will just fade into the background, i dont know if thats such a bad thing is it?. On a positive he did give me about 6 pieces of glass to paint and play with ( if he knew my personality of not being able to make a quick decision he may not have given them to me hehe). Do you think if I went for a colour the same as the walls but at 1/2 strength it would be a bit too bright as the window in the kitchen is north facing ( letting in alot of light)
cheers Rachael Re: help needed - splashback colour 14Aug 25, 2008 8:11 am Hi Rachelle,
This is what I think...you are paying a considerable amount of money for a glass splashback then make it worth the effort. I think you need a darker, vibrant colour to tie in the wood and black granite top...I like that plum colour Michelle had (or similiar) I'm the type of person that wants that gasp when they see the splasback...gasp of horror or gasp of delight Go for a deep tone colour. IMHO as always Mrs B....this advise is coming from a person who wants her whole kitchen wall a vibrant red or olive green Re: help needed - splashback colour 15Aug 25, 2008 8:26 pm how did you get that green on my kitchen? Its very clever!.
Ohhhhh green just isnt hitting the spot for me Im afraid. I just know I will get sick of it sooner rather than later. Tomorrow Im back to Bunnings for some more paint samples. At this point Im even thinking of getting 300x600mm tiles from Beaumonts that I have a sample of at home. Do you think a tiled splashback is a bit "out of fashion"? Keep up with the thoughts and opinions thi is very helpful cheers Re: help needed - splashback colour 16Aug 25, 2008 8:56 pm I think tiles would be fine. I like the ones that are about a 10cmx10cm. No idea if they are 'fashionable' or not. I would hope that I like things that stand the test of time rather than current vogue. Re: help needed - splashback colour 18Aug 25, 2008 9:12 pm Hi Rachael, We had Ecru walls and we used Dulux Warm Neutral for our glass splash back. We had full strength Ecru though, its a nice neutral colour so its quite safe.
Tiles are also another option and actually an easier job to do yourself, than you might think. If you feel like tackeling a DIY project. My english is so bad today ........sorry. Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7158 Thank you @. Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 3259 |
