Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Dec 02, 2011 7:21 pm In trying to save a bit of money we would really like to use 'clear' glass for our splashback as opposed to starphire glass. We are after a mid grey colour for the splashback. Can anyone recommend a paint colour that will look mid grey behind a 'clear' glass splashback (that has the green tinge to it)? Re: Grey Splashback on clear glass what colour to use? 3Dec 05, 2011 8:36 am No idea on specific colour, but as the glass is green from the iron content (which is pure green in a line spectrum), and because it passes light, it uses subtractive filtering, so that a warm grey (slight red and/or blue toned) will cancel the green, but it will also darken the grey, so go a little lighter. In fact you may find a slight pink/blue tone will be enough to create grey when viewed behind the glass. Take a colour chip or two along to a glazier and put it behind the glass. I was a little nervous but came up a silvery soft grey; just what I wanted. Sorry no pictures. Perhaps look at this colour chip behind green glass. They did leave me with two samples of the float glass to paint samples on to find the right colour so am hitting Bunnings for samples. So far have tried Endless Dusk and Water Worn. Endless Dusk came out quite green, Water Worn was better but not perfect. On Ed's suggestion I am going to try Moxa next which has a red tone to it (I think!!).
