Casey + Gary + 5 kool kiddos + 1 funky Frenchie + 5 happy hens = barrels of fun in Muswellbrook Re: Who's got the biggest splashback tiles?! 22Aug 29, 2011 7:18 pm Happy Camper, would you have some photos of your tiled areas pls ? We are also considering tiles for splashback (glass is way over our budget unfortunately!), and we were considering 600x600 - because we want minimal grouts (hopefully less cleaning). Today we had a couple of tilers coming to give us a quote and they gave us a 'look' when we mentioned we want 600x600! One of them said 600x600 for walls will look too 'heavy' this size is for floorings he said (while the other one just said, people dont use that size but if that's what you want, I'll still do it !). Anyone else has used 600x600 tiles for kitchen splashback pls (photos would be appreciated) ? does it really look 'heavy' as too big ? Our kitchen is U shape btw (wall on left and right and a window in the centre-110mm high from window edge to the bench), so will have these 600x600 tiles (kinda) all around. Many thanks. Re: Who's got the biggest splashback tiles?! 25Aug 29, 2011 9:12 pm First post... I am going to try and use 800 x 800 tiles (splash is only 700 high). Here is part of the kitchen with two small tile samples: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And the other part of the kitchen (pre stone top): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Let me know your thoughts please. Re: Who's got the biggest splashback tiles?! 26Aug 29, 2011 11:09 pm I was looking at those 8x8 too ... but noticed that they are even thicker than 6x3 or 6x6, whihc I think are alrady way too thick and heavy for a splashabck!! That's why I thought of using this new thin tile, it's only 5mm thick and therefore twice as light. Perhaps I'm wrong, many people are using the thick and heavy tiles for the splashback! Re: Who's got the biggest splashback tiles?! 27Aug 30, 2011 5:51 am The problem is that y splashback is about 700 high, so if i use 600x600 or 300x600 i will have to put a grout joint in 3/4 of the way up the wall. Does anyone know who stocks extra large porcelain tiles in brisbane? I'm having trouble finding suppliers with stock. BTW, our height is also more than 60 cm, in fact 65 cm but I'm not fussed about the little strip. One idea I was contemplating for a while was to use a different colour tile (or appropriate border, or a mosaic-style border) for those 5 cm and put it right along the top (ie. under the cabinets), so that it looks like a planned feature . I still think that would be quite good too ... There are no hard rules here, just a good mix of colours, textures and thicknesses. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Who's got the biggest splashback tiles?! 29Oct 15, 2011 9:23 am kiwi very pale white grout. very thin line though...they are quite close together the tiles. that extractor hood was the cheapest in the shop, $399, but I liked it cos it is round. so yes, cheap can just be cheap and not cheap and nasty!!! although the hood is NOISY ha ha anyone else got 300 x 600 tiles with a pic to share? Hi kiwi, would you mind checking if that grout is indeed pure plain white, or is it off-white (creamy / beigey white)? Thanks! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Thers is no problem, it's just a personal thingy (aka fixated idea ). We ended up using those large panel tiles (900 x300 x5 mm), they are gorgeous (and light weight too).
