If I can get away with it, I won’t have any grout. I also like the 300x600, they are well proportioned for splashbacks. They are the normal wall/floor tile, meaning thick and heavy. Does the weight matter?? I spotted a new product, polished porcelain, identical to other same tiles in that colour (3x3, 3x6, 6x6), except it's only about 5mm thick, 300x900 size. I'm a bit worried how would it look in that proportion . It's a much lighter tile (in weight) compared to the 300x600. Has anyone else seen them anywhere? And for all of you with 3x6 or 6x6 (or bigger ), any chance of some pics pleeeease??? At least a link to some already posted pics / blog?? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Who's got the biggest splashback tiles?! 7Aug 07, 2011 11:01 am I chose 600x600 chocolate porcelains because the overhead cupboards are 600mm above the bench, so the splashback is only one tile high and with minimal grout lines and grout the same colour as the tile this gives a seamless look. The bigger tiles sound expensive (mine were $25 each) but when you only need 5 for a splashback, it's not only nice looking but cost effective as well. These are regular floor tiles not the thinner ones you have mentioned Lex, but I don't see weight as an issue because they are laid on top of the bench. If you choose 300x900 and lay them in landscape mode, you will have a grout line at the half way point (horizontally), that's why I chose 600x600. Otoh, if you choose tiles like Michelle's 300x600 and lay them in portrait mode you will have twice as many grout lines (vertically) as you would if you used 600x600, but the splashback will be one tile high. It all comes down to personal preference and although my splashback has only been in place for a few weeks it was the right choice for me and it's easily changed for a different colour tile in a few years if you want a whole different appearance. Sounds like you are coming to the end of your build? Re: Who's got the biggest splashback tiles?! 8Aug 07, 2011 11:41 am Our splashback is actually 650 high, meaning that we'd need 3 tiles laid horizontally and 2 grout lines (a bit better than one line through the middle), but it means that there is a very small top strip too. I was contemplating to lay them vertically, but it's just not for me. Probably My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Who's got the biggest splashback tiles?! 15Aug 07, 2011 6:55 pm It doesn't look cheap at all EDIT OMG kiwi, I only now noticed that they are 3x6 tiles, I couldn't even see the grout line !!! Re: Who's got the biggest splashback tiles?! 16Aug 07, 2011 7:18 pm very pale white grout. very thin line though...they are quite close together the tiles. that extractor hood was the cheapest in the shop, $399, but I liked it cos it is round. so yes, cheap can just be cheap and not cheap and nasty!!! although the hood is NOISY ha ha anyone else got 300 x 600 tiles with a pic to share? Re: Who's got the biggest splashback tiles?! 18Aug 07, 2011 8:44 pm Looks good Kiwi. Just goes to show you don't need to break the bank to have your house looking nice. My splashback tiles were a bit of a shock at $25 each because I have the same tile in a different colour on the main floor and they were less $3 each but would have looked a bit much to repeat the same tile on the splashback. Rangehood was the same price as yours but is an undermount, it was a discontinued model. If so what were the "special circumstances" under which it was granted?
