Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Aug 03, 2011 12:29 pm Our SS decided that we should have a splashback at the end of the breakfast bar (without consulting us, but at no cost) but the display home doesn't have one ... we're not sure whether to keep it or not ... what do you think? It's a little hard to see how it looks as the painters still have everything covered. Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 2Aug 03, 2011 12:33 pm I think it's probably a good idea to have it there - if there is food preparation happening in that area - or dirty dishes kicking around it will protect your wall and keep it clean! Looks wise - I think it looks like it is supposed to be there as it's still in the kitchen! Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 3Aug 03, 2011 12:35 pm Personally I would leave it there and be thankful that they thought of it and provided it at no extra cost. You will be surprised at how much mess can be made at the end of the bench, not only that it will stop the wall getting scraped and denting if things are put up against it, like kettles or microwaves ETC.... Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 6Aug 03, 2011 1:27 pm leave it there. If you dont like it a few months after moving in then get rid of it. Personally even if it did look out of place (which I dont believe it does) i would still have it as in time the bare plaster will get damaged much quicker. Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 7Aug 03, 2011 1:44 pm Only problem with removing it later is that you'll need to do something on the plaster behind it - I doubt they've painted it and even if they have removing the splashback will more than likely wreck the paint. You'll never get that part of the wall to look exactly the same color as the wall around it if you have to paint it again later so it's always going to stand out one way or another - if you're going to get it removed I'd be doing it now and getting them to paint the wall again. IMO it doesn't match your color scheme and sticks out like a sore thumb - while a splashback might otherwise be a good idea I don't think that particular spalshback style/colour fits, but that's just my opinion. Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 8Aug 03, 2011 1:48 pm Hey McLaren, i have seen displays with the same layout where as they have put the splashback on. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Personally i dont like it as i dont see a need for a splashback and it looks odd having a square bit there, looks untidy. That is one reason i removed splashback returns on my benchtops. Its called a splashback, not splashside :p. Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 9Aug 03, 2011 1:50 pm Yes I'm tending to agree it looks out of place - it's probably because it's so big. It wouldn't be so bad if it matched the benchtop! Thanks for your input so far - great to have your views. Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 10Aug 03, 2011 4:41 pm I would keep it. I don't think it looks bad at all and it's practical. Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 11Aug 03, 2011 5:16 pm Yeah I would probably not have it either Building with Life$tyle Homes in Perth SOR Key Dates on First Page of my Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38761 Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 12Aug 03, 2011 5:39 pm oooh that is a tough one. Because you have a power point at the end of the bench, i am assuming you will have a kettle there, maybe a food processor, toaster? Having the splashback will protect your walls from knicks and scratches. If you dont plan to have anything there, i agree it doesnt have the same clean look as the display, but it is not terrible It is probably $400 ish worth of glass. I would keep it. Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 13Aug 03, 2011 6:50 pm if you keep it there you can throw bolognaise against the wall and WIPE IT OFF and voila, no damage to said wall with the dust sheet gone, and the bench showing and a nice clock above it (I mean huge clock) you might not notice it too much I can see why you like the display home though..nice and clean. but as you can see it seems 50/50 split, so up to you really. you could put some decals on it and it wont pull the paint off the walls when you change them...................... Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 15Aug 03, 2011 7:00 pm I know everyone was thinking it....but no one said. had to be said I felt anyway, I read on the zen thread you were back..WELCOME HOME! sounded like the best time. not jealous one single spaghetti bolognaise bit....................... Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 17Aug 03, 2011 9:22 pm I can see the practical side of having it there, wiping up food splatter etc but it does really look out of place to me. I think it's the colour, I imagine it will look amazing amongst all the chocolate brown joinery but it kinda looks odd just stuck on wall like that. But, you can work with it. You might be able to work something in above it. Art/clock or decal... If YOU don't like it, have it removed. Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 19Aug 03, 2011 11:24 pm The idea of having one there isn't a bad thing but to me the current splashback is too large and the wrong colour What I can see of your kitchen looks gorgeous btw Re: To keep the splashback or not .... 20Aug 04, 2011 8:40 am I dont get these comments about it being the wrong colour - I assume it is same colour as splashback on other side?? Not sure if I would have it or not - I have a U shape kitchen and splashback continues all the way around so yes, there is splashback behind the outer bench but doesnt have same disjointed look, IFYKWIM? Definetely if you are haveing a kettle or cooking appliances on that power point, I would - or steam will damage the paint work - if power points there are only going to be used for charging phones etc then maybe not.
