Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Jun 24, 2011 1:13 am We're having a new kitchen (relatively small in size) installed - tassie oak cabinet doors with laminate benchtop (Polytech Nullabor Stone). Floor tiles are large and beigish. The house is a 30yo log cabin, so interior is country style, though a little more Tuscan farmhouse than Australian country. The problem is the splashback choice. We prefer ceramic tiles, and were thinking of light-coloured 10x10cm tiles, or brick-style tiles, with perhaps a horizontal feature strip of brownish marble mosaic tiles. The tile supplier has strongly recommended 600x300 tiles laid vertically ie one tile width between benchtop and bottom of wall cabinets. However the amount of grout lines are not really of any concern to me. Does anyone know what these large tiles look like in situ? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Re: splashback of large tiles 2Jun 25, 2011 10:13 pm Personally I love that look. When they told me their plans I doubted the look but now I can see te result I can see it was the right decision Re: splashback of large tiles 4Jun 27, 2011 3:57 pm Maybe a country look might not work with the modern look. We used 600x600 tiles as a splash back (poorman's way of trying to approximate a glass splashback). Did one house with white 20x20 and then put a coloured line of 10x10 in a horizontal strip, 4 colours on a repeating pattern. looked great! Re: splashback of large tiles 5Jun 27, 2011 6:20 pm We have had exactly the same tile configuration recommended to us, and are really excited to see how they turn out. We only have a relatively small area for our splashback and it didn't seem worth the extra expense and hassle to go glass. Of course, as we have been waiting for a slab for 4 weeks, we might have to wait a while to see them....
