Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Apr 07, 2011 7:49 pm Finally I have been able to get samples of the 2 types you all use, took long enough! I have them here on my desk with an A4 paint colour behind them. SO…. Here is the big question answered, as I always new it would be. The green tint glass is to the left, the natural one, the dearest, is to the right. As you can see, the green tint does make a little difference to the paint colour, but as I have shown here if you go a couple of shades darker in the colour you want, it makes very little difference to the paint colour. Had to do this, as I had a nice little debate in a kitchen show room last week about this subject. Hopefully this will help you all make your decisions on which glass to spend your money on. Re: Glass splash backs 4Apr 08, 2011 6:09 am I actually prefer the depth of the green glass with colour behind it. One thing you need to remember is…..the green glass is a colour, so that colour needs to be thought of while picking your paint to put behind the glass. If you were to use a yellow, the green MAY distort the yellow quite badly. I’ll do a test over the weekend on all colours. Ohhhhh we were thinking of doing grey for the kitchen splashback. When you say the green (cheaper) one was a couple of shades darker, how do you do that?? ie what do you ask for at the paint shop? Sorry total novice here! Re: Glass splash backs 8Apr 08, 2011 8:50 am I didn't see the 'debate' you mentioned Michelle....so I hope I don't repeat something that has already been said..... but are you sure the green glass makes very little difference? I am finalising the order for my splashback and I took a look at a few colour samples in their showroom and I REALLY noticed a difference between the colours on starfire and regular clear glass......so much so that in most cases it was hard to believe that they were actually the same colour (especially the light colours) The reason I am curious is because the original quote I got was apparently for a 'special' colour (ie. not in their normal range) .... but apparently not starfire glass. I requested a sample of my desired colour (dulux linseed)on starfire glass. The sample has arrived and I love it but then I was told that they would need to get a price for the splashback on starfire glass. I asked for a ballpark figure and the lady told me that it could quite easily be $700+ on top of what we've already been quoted! I was flabberghasted to say the least! You wouldn't happen to have A4 cards for Dulux Linseed that you could test for me? With linseed already throwing green I'm not all that keen on the idea of accentuating the green by putting it on green glass but I'd be curious to see what it looks like just in case I'm wrong about how I expect it would look! Re: Glass splash backs 11Apr 08, 2011 10:20 am Quote: ^^ I hope starfire isn't that much more!! Lucky for you Mrs p. We live in a 'country area' and the prices out here are just ridiculous! In some cases we could quite easily pay DOUBLE the price for an identical product available in a metro area. It is ludicrous but sometimes we simply have no choice! The original quote I have for the splashback is about $2400 with possibly another $700+ added for starfire glass! Re: Glass splash backs 12Apr 08, 2011 6:23 pm Hi Miss, you haven’t missed any debate on the forum it took place in a kitchen show room where I live. As I said in one of my post it depends on the colour and how dark you go. If your using a light paint colour yes the green will distort the colour, so you need to go 2 shades darker to get the effect you want using the green tint glass. Here is Linseed – left is the green tint, right is the clear glass. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here is Army Issue, 2 shades darker than Linseed, left is the green tint right is clear glass. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Again I have to say, I prefer the green tint with both of the colours over the clear glass. I have to say the photos didn’t work out well, but here in my office, the green tint gets my thumbs up! Michelle - I like the normal glass too but only because I like the green tones. But for example something like my splash there is no way you could use normal glass - definitely only starfire for it! Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Glass splash backs 14Apr 08, 2011 6:38 pm Remember……the green tint glass will always have a green tint to it no matter what colour you use behind it. Some may like it some may not, to each there own. Kyton, that’s what I said earlier, it depends on the colour. Although there is a difference- it isn't as noticeable a difference as I saw in some of the other samples of colours at the showroom. Although I don't mind the hints of green (after all the main colour in my house throws a bit of green) I actually prefer the clear glass for this particular colour for my splashback. Why oh why do I always seem to like things that are more expensive!? LOL As you've mentioned for some colours it will definitely make a difference and for others not so much....and in my particular circumstances I feel it makes enough of a difference that I would lean towards the star-fire. Thanks again for your help! Re: Glass splash backs 18Apr 09, 2011 5:42 pm Don’t worry hparis, I would imagine as soon as you mention putting a paint colour on the back your kitchen supplier would quote you the clear glass. I have an Army Issue splashback on standard glass. (the same colour as Mich's second lot of samples.) I'm happy with the depth of colour we got from going with the standard glass. Our wall colour is White Pepper which is pretty much one shade lighter than Linseed. Here's a pic of it in. Terrence Malick Re: Glass splash backs 20Apr 09, 2011 6:09 pm Well,it's made a difference of us and I hate my splashback now We were never informed of any different glasses even though we picked off a sample glass at the builders! We have just been told it would have been an extra 20% which I would of happily paid to get the colour I actually ordered!! Our Bondi Greenwall was impressive from day one with advanced lush plants to provide a wow factor to this recently renovated living area. The boundary was less than 1… 0 16441 Need to remove glass panel out of concrete without wrecking the glass to get the spa room in, any recommendations on how to do that. Thank you 0 39101 |
