Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Oct 13, 2010 4:00 pm Hi, I am new to the forum. This is a great place! I have a quartz splashback in my kitchen and I would like to install a utensil rail on it. That means I need to drill a few 6-8 mm holes on it so I can further drill into the brick in order to get some screws in there. Does anyone know if it is feasible to drill into a quartz splashback? It is about 8mm thick. Che Re: drilling into quartz splashbacks 2Oct 13, 2010 6:32 pm Yes use a diamond encrusted drill bit. Use it dry and certainly not on hammer. By dry I mean no water needed but you need to do it with a lot of breaks to ensure the bit does not get too hot. Not sure if Bunnings have these drill bits but specialty hardware or tool shops do. They are not expensive. cheers Re: drilling into quartz splashbacks 3Oct 13, 2010 6:59 pm I am no expert nor even attempted to try this but all I can say is be very, very careful. Plumber cracked our stone bench top fitting the tap, one slip up and you've cracked it. Make sure you know what you are doing and take your time....slow and precise. Hope it works out for you. Re: drilling into quartz splashbacks 4Oct 14, 2010 4:00 pm OK, thanks. I found a 6mm diamond drill bit at Bunnings for $12. They actually look like a tiny core drill instead of a standard helicoidal drill bit. I will give it a go on the weekend. Will post the result. Re: drilling into quartz splashbacks 6Oct 15, 2010 5:38 pm Coconha, Start the drilling at an angle so to sort of cut a starting notch and then straighten up the drill. If you attempt to start off with the drill-bit at right angles it can very easily wander off. You will be surprised how effective the little diamond drill bit is. Also good for tiles and such. barkly I use Tramex moisture meter and it will tell me instantly if the wall is cement sheet or plaster or masonite but most people dont have the equipment. 5 4585 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 8166 8 3960 |
