Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Dec 13, 2009 11:28 am I'm having the benchtops installed on wednesday but I still need to choose the splashbacks. The cost of the glass is prohibitive and also to continue the quartz almost doubles the price. I was thinking a nice porcelain tile would be nice. Does anyone have any suggestions?Any advice much appreciated. Re: Splashbacks to go with quartz starlight white benchtop 2Dec 13, 2009 12:10 pm What colour are your cupboards? Tiles are cheap (or can be), but I haven't seen a tiled splashback that can look as good as glass, of course if you can, quartz for the splashback is supreme. Sometimes you have to spend the $$$. Same with appliances, sure you can get Made in China cheapo stuff, but these are easily upgraded later. Tiles --> glass or --> quartz cannot be easily done. In my humble opinion w/o seeing your kitchen or tile choice, I would go glass. Super clean, modern look, or bite yourself and spurge on the quartz splashabck. Then you'll have a kitchen that last 'forever' .... makes the kitchen from nice --> supurb. Happy 2010 To Everyone !! Re: Splashbacks to go with quartz starlight white benchtop 7Dec 13, 2009 2:45 pm my wife says, "doing the kitchen is like marriage, you only get married once, so do it properly the first time and don't skimp", gotta love her, I guess she means that we don't live more than 4-5 years before upgrading the home so we only live in one kitchen. Well at least I know where I stand.... If its only the cost of the glass / quartz thats holding you back, save or delay renos, but if theres fashion concerns or ' feel ' of the kitchen that is the decision maker, then its valid. We delayed our kitchen for this reason, look at the burn marks in the before photo above the oven ! We held back and saved hard to get the kitchen we wanted, not what we could afford at the time hope this helps, again, only my humble opinion (and the boss') Happy 2010 To Everyone !! Re: Splashbacks to go with quartz starlight white benchtop 8Dec 13, 2009 2:51 pm If glass is out of your reach, then tiles can look spectacular. There are many on here who have tiled splashbacks. Go and have a look in the "show me your kitchen" thread you might see a few examples in there Re: Splashbacks to go with quartz starlight white benchtop 9Dec 13, 2009 3:04 pm Agree with SuH - you can make a beautiful feature of tiles. There are so many options to choose from: large or small, a whole range of colours, smooth or textured, metallic finish, glass, porcelain, stone (or imitations that look fabulous). Go have a look around a few tile showrooms and see what's available. You might fall in love with something. Re: Splashbacks tIo go with quartz starlight white benchtop 10Dec 16, 2009 10:38 pm The starlight white quartz benctop looks good/...all sparkly, I just want to keep looking at it. I wish I'd been more adventurous with the colours but it still looks good. Not sure about the glass splashbacks...if they are around the same price then I prefer the quartz or the granite as they have more of a feature. Re: Splashbacks to go with quartz starlight white benchtop 11Dec 16, 2009 10:50 pm Camelia, I love granite but i wouldnt add it as a splashback unless your benchtop is also the same granite. Just my opinion but i dont think granite would sit well next to a quartz benchtop. If the benchtop is sparkly you could always do the classic white tiles and add colour with accessories. I have seen gorgeous large white tiles used as a splash and you hardly see the grout. From what i'm visualising from your colours, i think that would look great. If the glass isnt too expensive for you, then thats a whole other lot of discussing. Re: Splashbacks to go with quartz starlight white benchtop 13Dec 17, 2009 6:20 am I can only suggest you go into a tile shop and have a look at their feature tiles. At our local Hynes Tiles store here in Hoppers Crossing they have so many to choose from. I get giddy just looking. The hardest part is deciding which one. Only limited by your imagination. Good luck. A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. My kitchen will not be near any windows so I need all the sparkle I can get!
