Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Dec 07, 2009 1:20 pm Hi All, My kitchen reno is almost complete and I can't wait to share my "before and afters" with you all (I love a good before and after shot). I'll also share what a nightmare it has been, but more about that later. For now my splashback colour choice is doing my head in! I thought I had it narrowed right down before the kitchen was installed but now that I've seen it all together I don't like those colours anymore Here's what we've got: Cupboards - Classic White Overhead Cupboards - Lustrous Elm Benchtop - CS Nougat Kicks - Brushed Aluminium So I'm thinking of dulux "White Duck Half" on starfire glass - I think it works with the Lustrous Elm but worried it might be too green or too light Should I have something more grey? Any other colour suggestions would be so greatly appreciated. I love the Lustrous Elm cupboards but I've made life very difficult for myself - dont want the glass to compete with the cupboards. I'll shut up and sit down now. Thanks J Re: Splashback Colour HELP!!! 3Dec 07, 2009 2:46 pm Hi The kitchen needs to be repainted, so no wall colour yet. On the wall that has the splashback there will only be a small area of bulkhead to be painted so not a huge impact on the overall look. Anway thinking of something very light and neutral, maybe Watyl Flokati. Thanks Re: Splashback Colour HELP!!! 4Dec 07, 2009 2:56 pm I think what you have selected will look beautiful. Subtle, but with texture, and no one element being too overpowering. Here's some pics of Haywgl's kitchen. Hope you don't mind Bel. She has white cabinetry with Flokati paint. I'm not sure if her splashback is White Duck half or full strength. Half I think. This might help you visualise your selections together.... just add in the Lustrous Elm. I have Nougat tops and white cupboards and think the White Duck Half would go great with the Nougat and the Lustrous Elm Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You can see the difference between the walls and the white cupboards and the White Duck goes nice with the brown Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Splashback Colour HELP!!! 6Dec 07, 2009 9:07 pm Thanks for the vote of confidence joles and for the pics - very helpful to see another kitchen with the white duck splashback. And Suh, if it works in your gorgeous kitchen I must be on the right track I've been putting off ringing the glass guy 'cause I keep second guessing myself and thinking another colour is going to fall from the sky That settles it - calling in the morning! Thanks J Re: Splashback Colour HELP!!! 7Dec 07, 2009 9:11 pm I like your selections, I’m doing similar when I reno my kitchen….. Only I’m using both Oyster and Mushroom Linea’s together. The white duck half splash pic looks stunning. SuH- Where did u get your powerpoint from? Yours is lovely and i like the attention to detail u have. My splash back is long overdue and the glass company is promising it will be fixed and ready this week. All i need now are 3 new powerpoints! Re: Splashback Colour HELP!!! 11Dec 08, 2009 3:03 pm Hi - I'm new here - I've been reading the kitchen forums for a while and just signed up. You may have already done this, but I would get a good sized board and paint it in the half strength Whitle Duck and then put it around in various spots where the splash back will be. You said your kitchen is nearly done, so I'm imagining everything is in place but the splashback. I'm not sure how the starfire glass will affect the look of the paint, but I'm an artist (painter) and context has a big influence on the appearance of colour. The size of your room, the size of the area that will be covered, the amount of light it receives and the direction it comes from (north, south, east, west) and other factors like reflected light will make a difference. Your colours look harmonious in the samples but if you are afraid that the neutral white has too much of a green tinge or is too light, the best way to tell would be to look at a large sample in situ and to leave it there for a few days so you could observe it under different lighting condtions. We are in the process of planning our kitchen and bathroom renovations and I'm finding that a lot of things, like tiles, that we like in a showroom look too pink when we take the samples home and put them in place. Things that look too greenish in the showroom actually look right in the rooms. Also, if you can, try to relax about your colour choices. I know glass splashbacks are expensive, its daunting if your not used to working with colour, and you want to get it right, but if you stress too much about your colours you won't be able to "see" them properly anymore. I find that all the time when doing a painting. You can't force it and sometimes you have to walk away from forcing a decision and then come back to it in a different frame of mind or in a situation where you see things by the by, out of the corner of your eye, to get a fresh sense of their visual impact. Good luck and enjoy yourself! Re: Splashback Colour HELP!!! 13Dec 09, 2009 9:29 pm Well, there's no turning back now, the glass guy rang me on my mobile yesterday while I was hiding (procrastinating) at Westfield and asked for my colour selection. I've gone with the White Duck half, so fingers crossed it looks good. I bought a sample pot last week and painted a section of the plaster where the splashback will go. It helped but I still wasn't sure, I won't really know until it's installed on the 18th. Thanks for the positive feedback Oh and I like the look of those power points too I asked my eleco about putting some fancy p/points in the splashback and he got out his Clipsal book and said there's lots to chose from ie Chrome, brushed aluminium, stainless, etc and some can clip over my existing power points. Gotta check them out at the lighting shop apparently. Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 3618 Thank you @. Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 1033 |
