Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Aug 13, 2009 11:16 am Hi all After reading a few posts and contacting a few splash back companies it seems the colour varies. The low lead star fire glass has less green in it, thus, gives a truer colour. However it’s heaps more expensive if you have a big area. The standard clear glass is most popular and is suffice in most cages. However, it really does alter the colour. I’ve changed my wall colour only a shade or 2, due to paint brand change, and now I have to choose a new splash back. I’ve played with colours under 6mm clear glass for a day. Also looked at many on this site and the colours of the finished product look very different to the samples. So, who went for the star fire glass? Was it worth the extra money? Are you happy with the colour under the normal clear glass? Was the colour the same or similar to what you chose in the colour book? I would appreciate your feed back as I’m getting sick of those colour swatches. Thanks Kindly KW.......... “It's just as unpleasant to get more than you bargain for as to get less” George Bernard Shaw. Re: Splash back colour disapointed or not ? 2Aug 13, 2009 11:30 am Ours isn't in yet, but we have one coming in Stipple Seal. After reading in here of lots of green tinged glass, I rang the company in a panic. Apparently ours is on optically clear glass and I am told there is no green tinge....I think it's more the light colours that are affected. What colour splash are you looking at? What colour are your walls and cabinets? Re: Splash back colour disapointed or not ? 3Aug 13, 2009 11:35 am I was really worried about my glass splash back too..after hearing about the green tinge and the cost of the starfire. I sort of just chickened out and just chose a sample I liked at hopetoun. It goes with my cupboards and paint. Cross fingers it turns out the same!! From what the sales person at hopetoun told me...if you're wanting to match it to your paint or cupboards...choose a paint swatch and go one tone darker to be on the safe side. With the reflections that light causes on the glass and the fact that it is a 'decorative' feature in your kitchen...going one tone darker than your paint swatch will make the colour pop more. Hope that makes sense. Re: Splash back colour disapointed or not ? 5Aug 13, 2009 11:59 am I was pretty lucky that I had the actual coloured glass samples (both clear and starfire) to choose from when I did my colours. I knew all about the differences with clear and starfire and wanted to stay away from the green tinge, particually as I had a lighter colour. For me, at the time, there was no extra charge for starfire glass. Henley have since changed their glass supplier and I'm unsure what they do now and whether starfire is the same cost. It's been over a year since I chose my colours. FWIW, I would not have been happy with the colour under clear glass, purely because of the green factor, and being a light colour, it changed it significantly. It's still very difficult to choose colours from small samples when there is such a big area to cover, but I'm happy with my decision. I think you really need to go with your gut feel! If you think you'll be disappointed with the green tinge, then go for the starfire. Remember you have to look at your kitchen everyday!! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! If its not the colour of the tiles its the colour of something elles that bugs me. It not like you can paint over it, hey, once its up you have to smash it off. I changed paint from Waytle to Haymes because I like the Oak Buff, but, chose my splash back with Waytle and now its 95% the same as the Dulux Beige Royal. As mentioned its meant to be a feature not part of the wall. Anyone got any splash backs in, Dulux Beige Royal ? Any surgestions for the above pictures of my kitchen colours? Im a bit scared to go to with a full on contrast colour, like brown, as it may drive me crazyer. It also have to go along the top of the bench not just the stove. The pain, the pain of it all. Is it just me or do other people second guess their choices? Thanks for the support. KW............ “It's just as unpleasant to get more than you bargain for as to get less” George Bernard Shaw. Re: Splash back colour disapointed or not ? 7Aug 13, 2009 12:29 pm if u wouldn't mind paying the extra $$$, yes, go with starfire, it will reflect your chosen colour, alternatively, if you with a really dark colour n clear glass, it will be ok too. i have chosen Hog Bristle 1/2, it doesn't show much on my splashback, had i known i would have chosen a much darker one on clear glass, but it's too late now. nh Re: Splash back colour disapointed or not ? 8Aug 13, 2009 2:08 pm nh I looked at Hog Bristle also but the FULL. So, you got the clear glass and now wish you had of went for full colour as the true colour is not as strong is that correct? Thanks kindly.
