Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss! Re: Splashbacks and tiles 22Jul 05, 2009 4:51 am We are going glass splashback in our current reno. Its going to cost $1000 for around 2.54sqm with two powerpoints. The same with glass tiles would've been around $220 per sqm plus $400 install (so around $1000) - or even more for mosaics which are $300 per sqm at CTM!! - so that option would have been the most expensive....(maybe $1150ish). So glass splashback ended up being actually a reasonable (in terms of price) option. Will post photos once done , and mention the name of the company if its comes up trumps. Re: Splashbacks and tiles 23Jul 05, 2009 8:20 am we went tiles. glass wouldn't have worked because of teh kitchen design. ( I wanted all the splash back areas to be the same) Originally we were going for some beautiful silver/grey 300 x 200 tiles that looked like shot satin. but when we changed our bench top we had to change the tiling as the tiles didn't suit. So we have small 10 x 10 superglossy black tiles. Lots more grout which I would have liked to avoid but I love the glossiness. Re: Splashbacks and tiles 25Jul 05, 2009 8:47 pm oh judy I'm sorry no i don't. It was a over a year ago now. they were beautiful though. they also came in a black version but it was more a charcoal grey/ black and it wasn't as nice as the 'shot" bits made it look like the tile was faded or streaky) Re: Splashbacks and tiles 26Jul 07, 2009 12:58 am We're having both!!! A glass splashback in the main kitchen where the oven is for ease of cleaning around oil splatters etc, but in the butlers pantry just off that, we're having a mosaic type tile. Both inject a splash of colour and both (hopefully) complement each other and give the best of both worlds! Re: Splashbacks and tiles 27Jul 07, 2009 1:38 pm I'm going glass. It just looks neater and more modern IMO. Renovation Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38489 Re: Splashbacks and tiles 28Jul 07, 2009 11:07 pm My splashback tiles caused me the biggest melt down. We didn't consider glass due to the price, but now I'm glad not to have had another colour in there. I originally had some bone coloured tiles picked out. They were a very subtle off white which looked nice on their own. Once the kitchen was in though, I could quite clearly see that they were too warm for all my other selections. The day before the tiler was due to start, I rushed around to every tile shop open that day - a public holiday - and all I could get was white 100x300. Then I was stressed that this would look too plain and boring Now that its in and we've moved in, I love it. It's so plain and simple and I'll be able to add colour to the room in other ways too. I think any other colour would have just been too much. I like it simple, but I think it depends on the overall look, style and feel of your house. Tiles easy to wipe clean without leaving streaks, and I've sealed the grout with grout sealer, so hopefully the spills and splashes wont do much damage for a while yet. http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/JellyLegs01/Kitchen-1.jpg Firstly the ableflex that has been installed needs (manufactures specification) a sealant cap over the top, preventing water draining down between the slab and the… 3 7793 Our house was completed 8 years ago.
